Nivalis Nights took me by surprise. I didn’t expect a cyberpunk slice-of-life RPG to invest me this deeply in its world, characters, and even its damn Fishing system. In my playthrough, I tried building relationships with as many of the named characters as I could, go on dates with the ones that were interesting (and were interested in me), and eventually Find Love.
There are at least 15 romanceable characters, and each has their own unique romantic plot. You aren’t locked behind a gender/orientation check either, as your character is gender-neutral and the love interests aren’t limited by orientation either. Earning enough hearts with a certain character will lead you to a date when they ask you out. These are the characters I noticed were possible for romance (you have to keep an eye out for the red heart icon under or next to their name and see if it increases).

Does Nivalis Nights Have Romance?
In fact, romance is one of the main points of the game that was advertised before its release. Before the game’s launch on September 29, the developer said on Nivalis Nights’ subreddit that there would be 5 to 10 romanceable characters put in the game.
However, in my playthrough I encountered at least 15 characters which had the heart icon above their dialogue box, and had the number go up when I chose a flirty line. That’s the sign you need to pay attention to if you want to check whether the character can be romanced or not.
How Does Romance Work in Nivalis Nights?
So what you will immediately notice in the first 60 minutes of the game is that romance is part of the game’s overall relationship system rather than a completely separate dating mechanic. If you check the character section in the menu, you’ll see that Romance is only one type of relationship path available in the game, right next to Friendship (green smiley face), Rivalry (yellow lightning bolt), and Business Partnership (blue suitcase).
Choosing flirty lines or any dialogue option that aligns with the specific character’s personality and interests results in gaining heart scores. For example, Miso Baron likes a character who’s into drugs and doesn’t snitch on him. Saying F CorpSec is another easy way into his smooth-criminal heart. Follow the same pattern for other characters: pick the option that goes with their alignments.
Nivalis Nights Romance Options, Their Gender & Location
Each romance character in the game has their own unique romantic storyline (albeit short). Here are the characters I’ve managed to flirt with and get a heart score, based on which district of the game they are in:
- Lowtown: Reena, Deeala, Zaffer, Raluca
- Meridian Market: Miso Baron, Cecil Grimes, Agent Teleshko
- The Docks: Rheno, Zee Burke
- Eastern Residential: Garnet
- Helix Monumental: Sage Hullen
- The Sewers: Dr. Fred Matombo
- Seaside Boardwalk: Cassius Pierrepont IV
- Central Canyon: Kenzy Voan
- Hive Mall: Nabla
Based on gender:
- Female NPCs: Raluca, Deeala, Kenzy Voan, Sage Hullen, Zee Burke, Reena “The Radiance” Coda
- Non-Binary NPCs: Zaffer, Nabla
- Male NPCs: Miso Baron, Cassius Pierrepont IV, Garnet, Agent Teleshko, Cecil Grimes, Rheno, Dr. Fred Matombo
Sadly, despite popular demand, AVA is not a character that can be romanced. Guess she’ll simply stay our trusty assistant forever.
Can You Romance Multiple Characters?
Technically, yes. I had multiple characters with more than 2 heart scores. But that was just for flirting. For actual romance, I only succeeded in landing a date with Miso Baron.
But by the looks of it, this isn’t the type of game where you can build a harem. But you can certainly try!
How to Get the Find Love Achievement
Once you progress enough with the lucky lady/gentleman/NB baddie you took a liking to, they will ask you out on a date. If you manage to go through the date successfully, complete the romance storyline, and reach the end, you’ll receive this achievement.
