Nivalis Nights Manager Guide: How Managers Work

The Nivalis Nights Manager is supposed to make running a restaurant easier, but right now, hiring one can create a completely different problem. Managers may spend too much money on ingredients, ignore items you actually need, or leave you with piles of food that eventually spoil.
You probably haven’t set anything up wrong. The developers have acknowledged that Managers are not working particularly well in the launch version of Nivalis Nights, and fixing them is currently a focus.
Here’s how the Manager system works and what you can do while those issues remain.

How to Unlock a Manager in Nivalis Nights
You can hire a Manager once a venue reaches Level 3.
Managers are designed to reduce the amount of micromanagement required when you own multiple businesses. Instead of personally handling everything at each restaurant, you can leave some of the day-to-day work to them.
What Does a Manager Do in Nivalis Nights?
A Manager is mainly there to automate parts of your business.
Managers can restock ingredients like fish across your locations, improve staff efficiency and morale, and collect and use produce grown in your greenhouse. That should make them especially useful once you’re managing several businesses.

The problem is that the restocking system isn’t always behaving as expected in the current version.
Why Is My Manager Buying Too Much Food?
This is one of the biggest issues players are reporting with Nivalis Nights Managers.
Players on Reddit and Steam have described Managers spending large amounts of business cash on ingredients, sometimes buying far more than the restaurant appears to need. The developers are aware of it.
When a player complained about a Manager spending money on food that later spoiled, Nivalis Nights confirms that Managers “don’t work that well right now” and that fixing them is currently a focus. So if your Manager suddenly empties your restaurant’s wallet, it isn’t necessarily because you’ve configured the business incorrectly.
Managers & Overbuying Ingredients
The unofficial Manager Order Fix mod provides an interesting technical explanation.
According to the mod author’s analysis of the launch build, a Manager may buy the requested amount of an ingredient from multiple vendors without properly subtracting what was already purchased. For example, if the restaurant needs five potatoes, the Manager could buy five from one vendor and then another five from a second vendor instead of stopping once it reaches five.

In a same-save, same-hour test, the mod author recorded 37 items purchased with the original behavior and 19 after applying the fix.
That’s useful technical evidence, but it is still unofficial.
Why Is My Manager Not Buying Ingredients?
Oddly enough, some players are seeing the opposite problem. Managers can also fail to buy ingredients that the restaurant actually needs or spend money on items that are already well stocked.
One Steam player reported needing chicken for a new pizza while already having fresh kahlua available. Their Level 5 Manager reportedly bought another 30 kahlua and no chicken. Another player said their restaurant repeatedly ran out of noodle and beer ingredients while the Manager kept purchasing pork belly and onions that were already available.
That means the current problem isn’t simply “Managers buy too much.” Reports include:
- Buying excessive quantities.
- Failing to restock needed ingredients.
- Prioritizing ingredients that are already in stock.
- The exact behavior appears to vary between businesses and saves.
Does Business Skill Improve Manager Efficiency?
Business skill appears to affect the Manager Efficiency stat. Reaching Business Level 2 increased displayed Manager Efficiency from 0% to 30%. Business progression is also connected with higher Manager efficiency.
However, there is currently no official explanation showing exactly how that percentage changes Manager behavior.

Manager level is similarly unclear. I myself encountered some problems with Level 1, Level 3, and even Level 5 Managers, so hiring a higher-level Manager does not appear to guarantee reliable restocking.
How to Stop Managers Wasting Money?
There isn’t a confirmed fix yet, but you can reduce how much damage a bad Manager order does.
One Reddit player said their noodle restaurant was losing around 1,000 Lims per day while every unlocked recipe was available. After cutting the menu down to roughly four or five dishes and relying more heavily on ingredients supplied through the greenhouse, the restaurant became profitable again.
That doesn’t prove a large menu causes the Manager bug. It simply reduces the number of ingredients the system needs to manage.
For now, the safest approach is to:
- Keep your menu reasonably focused.
- Grow useful ingredients in the greenhouse when possible.
- Check important ingredient stocks yourself.
- Watch how much cash the Manager is spending.
In my experience, avoid scheduling the Manager during the first hour of the day, but this remains anecdotal and isn’t a confirmed solution.

Why Does Manager Food Spoil?
Overbuying might not be the only reason ingredients are spoiling. The game can use newer ingredient stock before older stock. Older ingredients can therefore remain in storage until they spoil, even while the restaurant continues using the same ingredient.
Nivalis Nights Manager Fix?
The developers have confirmed that Manager problems are currently being worked on. As of October 1, 2026, however, there is no announced release date for a dedicated Manager fix.
505 Games has also confirmed that broader post-launch patches are in development, although Managers were not specifically included in the original September 29 known-issues list.

Manager vs. Advisor in Nivalis Nights
Managers and Advisors are not the same thing. A Manager helps operate an individual venue and handles tasks such as ingredient restocking. An Advisor becomes relevant later through Business Empire progression and is connected to managing your wider business operation.
So choosing an Advisor does not replace the Manager working at your restaurant.
Should You Hire a Manager?
Yes, Managers can still reduce how much manual work you need to do, and some players report successfully leaving businesses alone after hiring one.
I just wouldn’t treat them as completely hands-off automation yet.
Until the Manager system is improved, keep an eye on your restaurant’s cash and key ingredients. Your Manager might save you a shopping trip, but they might also decide that what your pizza restaurant really needs is another 30 bottles of kahlua.
