Master Healer Kale With Useless Party Beginner’s Guide & Tips

You take on the role of Master Healer Kale in this unique auto-battler role-playing game. Your job is to keep your useless party alive while they fight to defeat the Demon King. You cannot control who your team attacks. You must sit back, watch health bars and carefully manage your Mana. When your team dies, you automatically retreat to the Tavern. Here, you spend your Gold and Skill Points on a skill tree to make your next run successful. Read below to find our complete Master Healer Kale walkthrough and tips.

Understand Your Useless Party

The game gives you a fixed party of characters who do all the fighting for you. You need to know how each member operates so you can support them.

Grandpa BagelTankSleeps through fights and absorbs most enemy damage early on.

Combat and Mana Management

You start the game with a basic Heal spell. This spell restores 30 Health and costs 10 Mana. It has a two-second cast time and a two-second cooldown. You must be careful with your early spell casts. You will run out of Mana quickly if you heal characters who are barely hurt. You should let Grandpa Bagel absorb some heavy hits before you finally use Heal. A 30-point heal on a target missing five health is a complete waste of resources.

The First Major Wall: Goblin Leader

The Goblin Leader is the first boss that will test your Tavern setup. Small enemies in this stage will start dealing damage to your entire team instead of just your tank. If you run out of Mana before the fight ends, your party will wipe.

You should not try to force a win with good timing alone. You must return to the Tavern and buy defensive upgrades. You need to boost the Armor and Health of Grandpa Bagel first. You can also buy a maximum Mana increase for Master Healer Kale so you can cast more spells before running dry. Later bosses will push your limits even further. Fire Dragon in Magma Core and the Ogre in Battle Arena both punish a weak Tavern setup hard, and by the time you reach the Demon King, your build needs to be fully stable.

Tavern Upgrades: Spending Gold, Skill Points, and Rubies

You will die often, but every time you fail, it grants you Gold and Skill Points. You use these resources in the Tavern to unlock over 200 nodes in the skill web. If you make a mistake, the version 1.5 update lets you right-click to reset your tree. Be aware that a known bug currently refunds your currency during a reset but fails to lower your stats back to zero.

Here is the best order to prioritize your upgrades:

  • Purchase Armor and Health upgrades for Grandpa Bagel so he survives longer.
  • Buy maximum Mana nodes for Master Healer Kale.
  • Upgrade your basic Heal so it restores more health per cast.
  • Invest in damage nodes for Madeleine and Klepon only after your tank is completely stable.

Best First Ruby Spells

Bosses drop a Ruby when you defeat them. You should hold onto your Ruby until you encounter a specific problem in a new dungeon. Don’t buy random spells just to fill your action bar.

  • Buy Party Heal if multiple enemies start dealing damage to your backline.
  • Buy Meditate if your team is surviving but you keep hitting zero Mana.
  • Buy Protection if a specific boss uses a massive attack that kills a party member in one hit.

Character Builds: Mage vs. Archer

Both characters offer unique benefits but they perform quite differently through the game.

CharacterEarly Game PowerLate Game Power
MadeleineWeak at the start.Melts bosses with massive level scaling and shield damage boosts.
KleponStrong early due to static gold drops and fast effects.Very powerful against bosses using Poison, Shock, and Open wounds.

Klepon will carry your team through the early dungeons. You can eventually use Haste on him to wipe out enemy waves quickly. Madeleine becomes an absolute monster in the mid-game and late game. Her magic skill tree has nodes that grant a massive damage boost when she has a shield active or when the archer is dead. Many players clear the entire game with zero investment in the archer by putting all their points into the mage.

The game introduces dungeon modifiers that completely change how you play. You must read the effects carefully before entering a new stage.

  • The Temple of Silence disables one random spell at the start of every stage. Your basic Heal is always safe, so build your entire strategy around it.
  • Winterfall Peak forces you to start with reduced Mana. You need to unlock Mana recovery tools quickly.
  • The Underwater Abyss puts a strict timer on your run. You must maximize your damage output to win.
  • The Magma Core demands heavy defensive plays. You need to rely on Shield and Protection to survive the heat.
  • The Gravity Arena requires debuff removal spells like Esuna.

If you experience a bug where you start any stage with zero Mana after buying Esuna upgrades, you must close the game completely. A full client restart fixes this issue immediately. You will also notice that there are no cloud saves for this game currently, so you must stick to one device.

Mana Alternative and Late-Game Spells

Once you get deep into the run, you unlock tools beyond basic healing. Angel Form turns Kale into a temporary support machine, cutting cooldowns and boosting your heal output for a short window. Pair it with Life Ascension for a big health buff, and Regeneration to keep your party topped off without burning mana every cast. Time Warp is your reset button on cooldowns when a fight drags on longer than planned.

You’ll also come across dialogue hinting that Kale can cast spells using health instead of mana, at the cost of shortening a character’s life. It’s flavor more than a core strategy, but it’s a nice touch if you’re paying attention to the story side of things.

You can drag your spells around to rearrange your action bar instead of being stuck with the order you unlocked them in. On controller, that’s the right analog stick in Joystick Mode. Sounds minor, but it makes managing a full spell bar in the late game way less painful.

Defeat the Demon King and Unlock Nightmare Mode

The Demon King is the final boss of the normal story. You should not treat this encounter like a complex boss fight. It is simply a check on your overall Tavern setup. You will win easily if Grandpa Bagel can survive, you have enough Mana recovery, and you have emergency tools like Burst Heal or Angel Form ready. You earn the Part Of The Journey Is The End achievement when you win this battle.

You unlock Nightmare Mode after you defeat this boss. The node sits in the top-right area of your skill tree, near your late healer skills. You don’t need to buy the full path leading up to it, once the Demon King is down, you only need to unlock the node itself. Nightmare Mode lets you replay previous dungeons for more Rubies. You also gain access to the Training Facility and Research Facility to infinitely scale your team stats.

Achievement Tips

You will need specific setups for achievements like Gotta Go Fast, It Takes A Moment, We Don’t Do That Here, I Am The Best, Machine Gun Punch, and Why So Serious?.

The It’s Fire Burning achievement confuses many players. You must unlock this inside the Magma Core dungeon. You need to have an active shield on every single party member exactly when the dragon boss unleashes its special attack. You must also survive the hit. You can accomplish this easily by combining Cast All, Life Ascension, and Protection right before the boss strikes.
