Fatal Frame 2 Remake Doll Puzzle

In the Fatal Frame2, there are two primary puzzles involving dolls. One is the Hina Doll Puzzle in the Kurosawa House (Chapter 4). The other is the easier Twin Mechanical Dolls Puzzle in the Kiryu House (Chapter 6).

Hina Doll Puzzle Walkthrough

This puzzle occurs in the Hina Doll Room during Chapter 4. You must arrange the dolls on the stand to match the “Photo: Hina Doll Room” found nearby.

The chapter starts with Mio and Mayu in the Hina Doll Room. You receive Butterfly Diary 1 and Photo: Warped Twin in your inventory.

Pick up the Prayer Bead nearby, then move toward Mio standing in front of the doll display. Next, grab the item on the ground near the display to get Photo: Hina Doll Room and the Hina Doll Head. Interact with the doll display to place the Hina Doll Head onto the correct doll.

Solution: Once the dolls are set properly, aim your camera at the display and switch to the Exposure Filter. Take a photo when the frame turns yellow.

This will open the box in the center of the display. Inside, you will find the Double Diamond Key, which unlocks the door on the right past the house entrance. You may have seen this door earlier when you first explored the Kurosawa House.

Twin Mechanical Puzzle Walkthrough

In the Doll Room. Interact with the doll on the right and insert the Glass Eyes to activate the mechanism. Now you need to solve a puzzle. The Doll Manual explains it, but the goal is simple: position the dolls so they face each other.

There are two buttons:

  • Left Button: Rotates the Left Doll 3 notches left and the Right Doll 1.5 notches left.
  • Right Button: Rotates Both Dolls 1.5 notches to the right.

Solution: Press the right button twice then press the left button four times.

While the terrifying atmosphere of Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is enough to put any player on edge, its puzzles should not be the reason you get stuck.

By matching the layout in the Hina Doll Room photo during Chapter 4 and using the exact sequence for the Twin Mechanical Dolls in Chapter 6 (Left x4, Right x2), you can overcome the puzzles quickly.

Twin Doll Puzzle (Chapter 7)

In chapter 7, head to Tatami Wing. There, pick up the Red-Stained Doll from above the hiding spot.

Soon after, the Woman in White appears in the Tatami Wing (West area). If she begins to chase you, retreat and hide until she disappears. When the area is clear, return to the door mechanism and interact with it. Mio will place the doll automatically. Then, you will face the doll puzzle.
