Windrose Coastal Jungle Discoveries: Complete Early-Game Guide

You’ll spend your first 10-20 hours in Windrose Coastal Jungle discoveries knocking out tutorial quests. The main goal? Take down the Local Threat (Boatswain Thomas Richards) to unlock the Foothills and push your story forward.

There are 32 unique locations across 9 islands and over 62 chests waiting to be looted. Every chest and POI gives solid XP, so clearing the map properly will level you up nicely before the next zone. Don’t rush out, strip this place of every last copper node and seed you can find.

I’ll tell you how to beat the local threat and then how to find and get major discoveries.

Local Threat: The Boss You Have to Beat

Boatswain Thomas Richards hangs out in a cave arena on one of the bigger islands. You’ll need 4 Black Marks (quest items) to trigger the fight properly. He’s a step up from basic mobs, so come with copper weapons, basic armor, and healing potions ready. Beat him and you open vendor access + Foothills progression.

My Pro move: Clear nearby POIs first for better gear before the showdown. It really helps!

After that, it’s time to go for discoveries and get ready for the upcoming challenges.

Key Windrose Coastal Jungle Discoveries

These five unlock the real crafting game:

  • Fast Travel Bell: Loot from supply caches and chests (Pirate Remains POI is a guaranteed spot early). Once you have Copper Ingots, craft it at a workbench: 10x Copper Ingot plus 3x Rope. Unlocks the Fast Travel Bell building so you can zip between islands.
  • Copper Ore: Mine glowing copper deposits in caves and rocky areas all over the islands. Bring a pickaxe (upgrade to Copper Pickaxe ASAP).
  • Copper Ingot: Smelt in a Smelting Furnace: 4x Copper Ore plus 1x Charcoal. You can also buy them later from the Tortuga Goods Seller for 5 Piastre each. This is the big one and unlocks copper weapons, tools (Copper Axe, Pickaxe, Shovel), armor pieces, workshops and more.
  • Rough Hide: Skin boars, wolves, and other furry beasts. Drops reliably from animal kills. Unlocks Sailor Backpack and the full Survivor armor set.
  • Misty Orchid: Forage the glowing blue orchid plants scattered in the dense jungle (they make a distinct sound when you’re near). Essential for the Alchemy Table: Minor Healing Potion, Alchemical Base, Elixir of Cruelty, etc.

Farm copper like your life depends on it. You’ll need stacks for tools and upgrades before leaving.

Exploration Tips In Coastal Jungle

First, I recommend you sail between all 9 islands, don’t stick to your starter one. Also try to hit every shipwreck, old cabin, inhabited ruin, and pirate camp. Many contain diary fragments that lead to buried treasure markers. Other tips are:

  • The Castaway Collection (3 diary pages from Shipwreck Site, Inhabited Ruin, and Old Cabin) reveals a northern treasure spot with good loot.
  • Clear beaches at different times of day, some resources spawn better at dawn/dusk.
  • For the painful RNG drops (Crab Shell, Palm/Ficus Seeds): Just commit. Sweep every beach cluster and chop every tree group you see. It will drop eventually, the game isn’t trolling you (much).
  • Night is dangerous with more undead and Thorn Fiddlers, but also better loot opportunities if you’re geared.
  • Build a small base early with a Smelting Furnace and Workbench near copper nodes to speed things up.

The Coastal Jungle is generous once you learn the patterns, but those last couple of RNG discoveries will test your pirate patience. Clear it right and you’ll roll into the Foothills with copper weapons, basic potions, fast travel, and a belly full of banana-sweet potato stew.

Coastal Jungle Discoveries: Try Your Best

Strip every island bare, farm that copper until your pockets hurt, pick up every damn crab and ring that Fast Travel Bell when you’re done. Once Boatswain Thomas Richards is sleeping with the fishes, you’ll sail into the Foothills properly geared, stocked on potions and actually ready for what comes next.

The jungle doesn’t forgive laziness, but it rewards the thorough pirate. Loot everything and don’t leave until your discovery tab is glowing green.

Now get out there and make the sea your own. Smooth sailing, mate, you’ve earned it. Later you may learn how to use canons in your ships. Then read this text too:

FAQs

How long does it take to fully clear the Coastal Jungle?

Most players knock it out in 10-20 hours if they explore properly. Rushers can do it faster, but you’ll regret skipping copper and resources later.

Where do I find Crab Shell? It’s not dropping!

Don’t kill the small red crabs on beaches, pick them up (interact) while grabbing Crab Meat. Pure RNG. If you’re desperate, buy from Buccaneers for 10 Piastre.

Do I need to explore all 9 islands?

Yes. There are 32 locations and around 62 chests. Skipping islands means missing XP and key loot.

When should I fight Boatswain Thomas Richards?

After you have decent copper gear, healing potions, and at least 4 Black Marks. Clear nearby POIs first for better drops.

How do I get the Fast Travel Bell?

Loot it early from Pirate Remains chests or craft it later (10 Copper Ingot + 3 Rope) at a workbench.

Are Misty Orchids hard to find?

Not really, they glow blue and make a sound when you’re close. Sweep the dense jungle areas.

Should I build a base here before leaving?

A small one near copper nodes with a Smelting Furnace and Workbench makes life way easier.
