Slay the Spire 2 Trash Heap Event Guide: All Choices and Rewards

Trash Heap is a risk-reward event in Slay the Spire 2 that’s exclusive to Act 1B: Underdocks. In this event, you can either obtain a card or a relic from the first game.
Relics the Dive In option gives you: Darkstone Periapt, Dream Catcher, Hand Drill, Maw Bank, and The Boot.
Cards the Grab Random Junk option gives you: Caltrops, Distraction, Outmaneuver, Clash, Dual Wield, Entrench, Hello World, Rebound, Stack, and Rip and Tear.
Note that there might be some other relics and cards you can get through the Trash Heap event. But the items I have mentioned, are what I’ve been able to get so far. Now let’s break it down to see what the fuss is all about.

How to Unlock the Trash Heap Event
To unlock the Trash Heap event in Slay the Spire 2, you need to score enough points to unlock the Cultists timeline event. Your character also should have more than 5 HP.

This is inherently not considered a positive event in the community. The reason being, all the relics and cards that this event gives you are super niche items from the first game at best. It’s sort of like the Scrap Ooze event from the original game.
Trash Heap Event Explained
The Trash Heap event gives you two options:
- Dive In: Lose 8 HP. Obtain a random forgotten Relic from the past.
- Grab Random Junk: Gain 100 Gold. Obtain a random forgotten card from the past.
When to Choose Dive In and Why
If you choose the Dive In option, you’ll lose 8 HP, but you’ll get a random relic. These are the relics you’re likely going to get: Darkstone Periapt, Dream Catcher, Hand Drill, Maw Bank, and The Boot. It’s highly possible there are other relics that you’ll get, but these are what I’ve found so far.
If you can spare 8 HP, in my opinion, this is the stronger choice for sure because relics provide long-term value. For instance, if you get the Hand Drill, it’s more useful in Slay the Spire 2 since more enemies use the Block feature.
When to Choose Grab Random Junk and Why
If you’re in desperate need of some Gold, you can quickly score 100 Gold when you choose this option. Not to mention, you’ll also get a random card. These are the cards I’ve encountered so far: Caltrops, Distraction, Outmaneuver, Clash, Dual Wield, Entrench, Hello World, Rebound, Stack, and Rip and Tear.

This is the safer option. Choose this to avoid early damage in your run or if you want to visit the merchant or the Fake Merchant!
Caltrops or Dual Wield can be solid choices. Caltrops, in particular, can be really helpful since you can deal damage back when you get attacked. It all comes down to your deck’s synergy, of course. If it doesn’t match yours, it can do more harm than good.
Is Trash Pile Event Worth It?
At the end of the day, when it comes to the Slay the Spire 2 trash pile event, you should choose the relic option if you can spare HP and want to have a permanent upgrade. Choose to grab the junk to score 100 easy Gold. I’d say it’s definitely worth it.
