Probably Stolen BloomBerry Guide: Where to Get It, How to Grow It, and What to Make

BloomBerry looks like a throwaway food item in Probably Stolen. One berry sells for just 14 Credits. But the real value is in BloomBerry Wine, which starts at 100 Credits a bottle and gains more every night it ages. It takes some setup, but the payoff adds up. This guide covers where to get the berries, how to grow them yourself, and how to turn them into wine without wasting your starter kit.

What Is BloomBerry in Probably Stolen

BloomBerry is a Food item that takes up a 2×2 block of inventory space. It’s worth 14 Credits and gives 150 kcal, which isn’t much for the slot it takes. The BloomBerry Seed costs 40 Credits.

You can sell the berries as food to buyers like Spacers and Tourists. That’s the lazy route, and the payout is tiny. Most players save them for BloomBerry Wine instead. Berry condition changes how good that wine turns out, so check each bunch before you use it. I cover that below.

How to Get BloomBerry

To get BloomBerry, you should either unlock the Retired Winemaker or the Retired Farmer.

Unlock the Retired Winemaker

This is the cheapest way in. Open Joe Wild’s Network and buy the Retired Winemaker under Referral. If the menu doesn’t pop up, call his assistant at 8376. The price depends on difficulty: 200 on Normal and Mark Up, 300 on Hard, 400 on Challenge. Favor gets spent before Credits.

You get a starter kit instantly: 3 Wine Bottles, 3 regular Yeast, 2 BloomBerry bunches, and the fermenting manual. After that, he visits weekly with 8 berries and 4 bottles on Fridays. Your first visit may land on a different day, so check the calendar.

Unlock the Retired Farmer

Buy the Retired Farmer from the same Network for 350 Credits on Normal. He gives you a used Hydroponic System right away, but the kit doesn’t include BloomBerry seeds. You’ll buy those on his weekly visits. The Hydroponic Farmer advanced start skips the purchase, though it raises your starting rent.

If you’re starting a new run, our Probably Stolen beginner guide explains how the Hydroponic Farmer compares with the other starting scenarios.

How to Grow BloomBerry

Put a seed, a water container with minerals, and an Energy Cell into the Hydroponic System. It uses 8 power per night. Keep minerals between 1.25% and 2.75%, since too little or too much hurts the plant.

The first harvest takes about 3 nights, then it regrows every 2. BloomBerry is a perennial, so the bush stays in the machine. It returns no seeds, though, so buy a second seed if you want another bush.

You can speed up growth and improve harvest yields by upgrading your Hydroponic System. Our Probably Stolen Modules guide covers which upgrades work best.

If the machine says Ready but nothing grows, check the water. An empty tank stalls the plant.

How to Check BloomBerry Quality

Use a Magnifying Glass on every bunch before it goes in a bottle. Condition is the biggest factor in how good your wine turns out.

Here’s how:

ConditionLooks LikeWine Score
SmallTightly clustered small berries+2
NormalPurple+1
UnderripeOrange or yellow patches0
MoldyGray or brown patches-1

Small berries are the ones you want. Condition is locked in when you get the berry, so underripe fruit won’t ripen on your shelf. A hydroponic plant’s health at harvest sets the condition. Don’t starve your plants on purpose to get Small berries, though. That will not work.

How to Make BloomBerry Wine

You need a Wine Bottle, 750 mL of water, one or two BloomBerry bunches, and yeast. Use Basewater or High Quality Water. If you’re having trouble getting either, check our Probably Stolen water guide for purification methods. Don’t grab an Empty Beer Bottle by mistake. Here’s the step-by-step tutorial:

  1. Drag a Sealed Water Ration onto the bottle on your counter. The tooltip should read 750/750 mL.
  2. Double-click the bottle to open it.
  3. Drop in your berries and yeast.
  4. Click Start Fermenting.

Skipping yeast doubles the wait and makes the result less predictable, according to the manual. Fermentation time depends on the yeast:

YeastFermentation Time
None4 nights
Regular2 nights
Super Yeast1 night

Regular yeast gets used up. The Yeast Bioreactor (250 Credits) comes back to your inventory after each batch. Don’t sell an unfinished bottle, either. Buyers treat it as a plain Wine Bottle worth about 10 Credits.

Best BloomBerry Wine Recipes

These are some of the most popular wines you can make in Probably Stolen. All use regular yeast.

1 Small, Basewater3Production (125)
2 Normal, Basewater4Production (125)
2 Normal, High Quality5Reserve (150)
2 Small, Basewater6Master Vintage (175)

Note: Pure Water is a mess. The manual warns it lacks minerals, but I rate it the same as High Quality. Stick to Basewater or High Quality.

Pro-Tip: Your starter kit has 2 berries and 3 bottles. Brew one two-berry batch for a higher tier, or split them into two one-berry batches. Neither is always more profitable.

How to Sell and Age BloomBerry Wine

Finished wine counts as Substance/Alcohol, not Food. A Foodie Tourist will ignore it even though BloomBerry itself is food. Look for buyers interested in Substance, like Merchants and Upper Level Visitors.

You can also sell finished wine overnight through a Vending Machine, which accepts Wine Bottles even though most liquid containers aren’t allowed.

An interested buyer still needs the cash. In one Mark Up run, a Miner offered 125 but only had 70 Credits, so no sale. Later, an Upper Level Visitor with a 323 budget paid 143 and 152 for two bottles. Those are single examples from my experience, though, not fixed prices.

Wine gains 3 raw Credits per night, and higher tiers earn a bit more on top. AgeWell (350 Credits) adds an extra aging day per powered night. It won’t speed up fermentation, and it only takes finished bottles.

Don’t age everything forever. This is dystopian cyberpunk. If you age a bottle worth 400+, most people cannot afford it. Sell a few to cover rent and ingredients.

FAQ

My wine came out Undrinkable. Do I lose the bottle?

Undrinkable wine (score 0 or below) can’t be sold. You can empty it to get the Wine Bottle back.

Can I make wine with Synthetic Yeast?

Not BloomBerry Wine. Synthetic Yeast makes illegal GloomBerry Wine and needs no berries. It is around 74 Credits, and it never ages. That figure ignores your costs.

Can I store berries or wine in the fridge?

No. The fridge accepts neither BloomBerries nor Wine Bottles. Use an AgeWell for finished wine instead.

Is there a BloomBerry quest?

No. BloomBerry is an optional ingredient for wine, not a required quest item.
