Probably Stolen Jackson: Location, Shop & Items

Dr. Jackson is your equipment supplier in Probably Stolen. On a standard Apprentice run, he shows up at your counter on Day 6. He’s got plenty of useful stuff for sale, from machines and modules to storage upgrades and whatnot. He’ll also buy materials from you.
I’ll walk you through how Jackson’s shop works so you know what to expect before spending your Credits. If you’re thinking about investing in him to get better equipment, I’ll cover whether that’s actually worth it.

Where to Find Dr. Jackson in Probably Stolen
Dr. Jackson shows up at your counter on Day 6 in a standard Apprentice run. He sells you that first Furnace with a battery and then invites you over to his place. Once you finish the day and close up shop, just select Leave Store and you’ll see him as one of the after-hours spots you can visit. After that first meeting, he tends to swing by your shop on Fridays.

Day 6 isn’t the rule for every playthrough, though. On Rock Bottom, his location is already on the travel map as early as Day 1. Just keep in mind that heading out at night can make you open late the next morning and miss a customer, unless you’ve got the Short Sleeper perk.
What Does Dr. Jackson Sell in Probably Stolen?
In Probably Stolen, Dr. Jackson’s inventory changes between visits, so you won’t always find what you’re looking for. Some equipment also unlocks later in the game, but here’s what you can expect to find in his shop.
| Equipment Use | Items Jackson Sells |
|---|---|
| Machines & Processing | Furnace, Water Purifier, Moisture Farm, Fridge |
| Storage | Satchels, Backpacks, Storage Bay, Machine Bay, Smuggler Bay |
| Tools | Toolbox, Scav Scanner, Flashlight, Aqua Scanner |
| Power | Energy Cells, PowerBloc, Recharger |
| Modules | Quality, Efficiency, Performance, Module Bay Expansion Kit |
| Shop Equipment | Alarm System, Mirage Projector, Display Signs |

Prices have changed since release. Hotfix 1.0.0.2 lowered Jackson’s markup on Normal difficulty from 25% to 15% and reduced the Moisture Farm price to 350 Credits. Hotfix 1.0.0.5 reduced the Water Purifier price to 250 Credits. The final price may vary depending on markups and discounts.
Best Dr. Jackson Purchases and Shop Discounts
The table below covers some of the best things to buy from Dr. Jackson in Probably Stolen and when they’re worth spending your Credits on.
| Item | What It Does | When to Grab It |
|---|---|---|
| Furnace (50 Credits) | Turns 2 pieces of scrap or ore into an ingot overnight. | First visit (comes with a free Energy Cell) |
| Satchel / Backpack | Lets you carry more while scavenging. | When it appears in stock. |
| Toolbox | Organizes tools. Can be pocketed to free backpack space. | When it appears in stock. |
| Quality modules | Improve Furnace ingot purity. | Later visits (often with a “friend of science” discount) |
| Efficiency modules | Lower power use | Later visits |
| PowerBloc | Gives 2 power per night to adjacent Energy Cells. | Once you’re running multiple machines. |
| Aqua Scanner | Unlimited water purity tests | Whenever it shows up (you don’t want to miss this one). |
| Mirage Projector | Makes the shop more attractive to customers. | When you want more foot traffic. |
I wouldn’t spend all my Credits just because Jackson has something useful in stock. Make sure you’ve got enough left for rent and keep an eye on the after-hours travel screen. Every so often, his prices are 10% lower. You might also get a “friend of science” discount on modules.

Just remember that the PowerBloc needs an active power service to work. And don’t grab an Alarm Transmitter thinking it’ll work on its own. You’ll need the actual Alarm System for that.
Are Jackson Investments I and II Worth It?
Joe Wild’s upgrade menu has Jackson Investment I and II, which improve the inventor’s stock. Even if you max them out, though, there’s no guarantee you’ll see a second Furnace or whatever else you’re hunting. They may raise your odds of getting useful stuff, but they don’t lock anything in.

It’s usually smarter to grab the equipment you actually need right now and make sure you can cover rent before dumping points into the investments.
