Phantom Blade Zero Blood Steel Form: How to Get & Equip

Phantom Blade Zero Blood-Steel Form is one of the sickest outfits you can get for Soul. Along with the Wulin Legend outfit, it is one of the cosmetics exclusively featured in the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game. Despite the name, Blood-Steel Form isn’t a separate combat stance or a transformation that occurs mid-game. It doesn’t offer any gameplay benefits. It simply grants Soul immense drip.

If you’ve bought the Digital Deluxe Edition, you can equip the outfit after the opening prologue. If not, don’t worry; you’re not late to the party. You can Upgrade your standard edition by paying $10 and get both Wulin Legend and Blood-Steel Form, as well as the game’s digital artbook and official soundtrack. Here’s how to get Blood-Steel Form, where to find it in the character menu, and whether it affects combat at all.

How to Get Blood-Steel Form

This outfit is exclusively offered in the Digital Deluxe Edition. There’s no other way to get this outfit. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 while the standard edition costs $59.99. Buying the upgrade from standard to Deluxe therefore doesn’t cost anything extra. The Digital Deluxe Edition offers players four things: Blood-Steel Form outfit – Wulin Legend outfit – Digital artbook – Digital soundtrack.

The best thing about this outfit is that it isn’t a preorder-only bonus; you don’t need to have bought the game before launch to get it.

How to Equip Blood-Steel Form

After completing Phantom Blade Zero’s prologue, you can immediately access the outfits you got through the Appearance menu. The Appearance menu is in the Character tab when you pause the game. The Blood-Steel Form is the left option of the second row in the Appearance menu. The in-game description says, “Sha-Chi comes to a boil with the blood in his veins and surges through the war-plate, tempering it to a strange, deep crimson.“

The Appearance menu also lets you show or hide an outfit’s associated headwear, however, Phantom Blade Zero Blood-Steel Form doesn’t include a headwear so the option won’t appear. If Blood-Steel Form isn’t available at all, double-check whether you own and have launched the Digital Deluxe Edition. Remember that the outfit isn’t included with the Standard Edition by default.

What Blood-Steel Form Looks Like

Since the game is a Kongfupunk, it mixes steampunk vibes with the ancient China setting. One clear example is Blood-Steel Form. The look displays Soul as a half-demon, half-cyborg character. When you equip this outfit, Soul’s hair turns white, his eyes glow red, and bright red particles float around his body. His body itself becomes mechanical, as if made of dark steel, with orange-red veins outlining his abs and biceps.

Soul also appears to be wearing a thick red scarf (made of metal) around his neck, and a dark red loincloth covers his lower body. Even his boots seem made of metal. What I especially like are the details on his face. His face divides into several sections (like the pattern of a tribal face tattoo), with some parts appearing a dark shade of blue.

Does Blood-Steel Form Give Combat Bonuses?

No. Blood-Steel Form is officially classified as an appearance or outfit, rather than a weapon, skill, or combat form. There are no damage bonuses, defensive effects, or additional combat abilities that comes with the costume. Its name doesn’t mean that Soul just instantly gains a separate fighting style or transformation.

Can You Unlock Blood-Steel Form for Free?

There is currently no free unlock method for Blood-Steel Form through quests, boss fights, or regular gameplay. This is different from the Legacy outfit, which was offered as an early-unlock preorder reward. Legacy can also be earned through in-game progression, while no equivalent gameplay unlock has been confirmed for Blood-Steel Form.

Alex fell in love with video games at the age of 4, when his father bought him his first PC. He considers video games to be the upgraded version of the best books: a form of interactive art. His love of RPGs comes from the fact that he can spend hours immersed in a fictional universe and make choices that have meaningful impacts on the story. As a child, Alex would often spend hours trying to figure out the side quests in random games. There were no internet guides back then, so he knows exactly how frustratingly confusing or borderline impossible games can get. He intends to dedicate himself to saving other gamers from suffering the same fate.
