Castlevania Belmont’s Curse One Way Mirror Explained (Free Eleanor)

In Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, the One Way Mirror is the special chained mirror in the Main Hall’s Mirror Rooms that traps Queen Eleanor.

It serves as the game’s main cryptic hint for the Mirror of Life fast-travel system. After meeting the Ferryman, crouching at save mirrors pulls you into the Hall of Mirrors hub.

Freeing Eleanor requires breaking four Sage seals through combat challenges at specific Mirrors of Life across Paris Streets, Notre-Dame, the Clock Tower and the Main Hall. Once freed, this unlocks the full Hall of Mirrors maze, the Succubus fight for The Temptress Arcana and eventually The Sage Arcana at her tomb in the cemetery.

What the One-Way Mirror Is

The One-Way Mirror is the special chained standing mirror that traps Queen Eleanor (also called the Sage). She’s locked inside it in the Main Hall. You can talk to her, she can judge you and she does but she can’t leave until you free her.

She can see out, you can see in, but the exit is sealed until you break the four Sage seals.

Exact Location & How to Reach It

I know that most of you guys have already reached the mirror, but anyway there are still people out there who don’t know even how to find this one way thing.

A route that usually works: Grand Hall, Boudoirs, Waterworks, Forgotten Basement, Torture Chambers and finally, Mirror Rooms.

Look for the large mirror surrounded by stone statues and glowing chains. That’s her. Most thorough players hit this area around the 3-4 hour of playing.

How to Free Eleanor

You can’t smash the glass. You have to break the four Sage seals first (do it in the order below):

Each seal is a combat challenge. Crouch at these specific Mirrors of Life:

  • Clock Tower: Mechanic’s Ascent
  • Notre-Dame: East Gallery
  • Main Hall: Archives
  • Paris Streets: Prison Tower

When you crouch at the correct mirror you’ll drop into a sealed arena. Kill every enemy that spawns and the seal breaks. A note from Talos in the Clock Tower (Builder’s Bureau) confirms these four seals are what keep her locked.

Once all four are gone, return to Eleanor’s One-Way Mirror. The chains snap and she’s free.

Why This Mirror Matters (The Two Big Reasons)

Well, it’s the game’s main (and almost only) hint about fast travel. Eleanor will demand that you KNEEL. This is the clue for the secret Mirror of Life fast-travel system.

After you’ve met the Ferryman in the Catacombs, stand in front of any activated blue Mirror of Life (save point) and hold down (crouch). You’ll be pulled into the Hall of Mirrors hub. From there, kneel at other mirrors to warp between discovered save points in the same region.

Early on it’s region-locked. Full cross-map travel only unlocks after you free Eleanor and break all four seals.

It’s also the start of a major side quest with strong rewards. Freeing her leads to the full Hall of Mirrors maze, the Succubus boss (The Temptress Arcana and Life Drain spell), and later The Sage Arcana (Mirror Walk spell). The Sage Arcana is also required for the Prudence virtue trial if you’re going for the true ending.

Things You Should Know

Just don’t bother kneeling in front of Eleanor’s mirror before the seals are broken. Nothing happens.

As you probably know, the Hall of Mirrors map starts completely fogged. Reveal rooms by interacting with mirror shrines (between hooded statues) and kneeling at glowing reflections.

You can start using basic mirror fast travel as soon as you meet the Ferryman, even before finding Eleanor. She just teaches you the kneel command.

And one last thing worth mentioning: The Succubus fight rewards Life Drain, which is very strong for resource management later.

That’s it, not too complicated don’t you agree? Now go back and enjoy this banger.
