How to Romance Triss in The Witcher 3: Quests, Choices & Endings

The Witcher 3 offers our Geralt two Main Romance options. One is Yennefer of Vengerberg and the other is Triss Merigold of Maribor. Romancing both Yen and Triss at the same time will eventually fail, so if you wish to successfully Romance Triss you should know which quests are connected to her storyline, which choices to make, and which dialogue options to pick.
There are two side quests directly linked to Triss’s Romance: 1. A Matter of Life and Death 2. Now or Never. Both require Geralt to explicitly commit to her. You get locked into Triss’s romance near the end of the quest “Now or Never,” during the farewell conversation at the Novigrad docks.

A Matter of Life and Death

After finishing up our business with the quest A Favor for Radovid, we get to attend a lavish ball at the Vegelbud Residence. Though Geralt’s main focus is to help get Lady Vegelbud’s son out of Novigrad, Triss steals the spotlight.

Once you find Albert, Lady Vegelbud’s son, you see he is bragging to other guests about his talent for “alchemy”. Then he suggests to Geralt and Triss meet at the hedge maze once everyone is drunk and distracted by the fireworks.

Triss tells Geralt they should wait at a nice spot near here, then the couple go sit on a nearby bench. There, while saying sweet nothings to each other, Triss gets a bit drunk and playful. She gets up and dashes off, leading to Geralt having to chase her in the residence’s garden maze. At some point, Triss falls off from a fountain’s edge and Geralt has to catch her. You will receive a timed dialogue choice:

- [Kiss her.]
- [Not the time for this.]

Choose “Kiss her.” to progress her romance. If you do so, it matches perfectly with the timing of the fireworks going off. Our work continues in the next related quest, Now or Never.
Now or Never
You can talk to Triss after finishing up with A Matter of Life and Death and start this quest. Alternatively, if you do A Matter of Life and Death first and THEN A Favor for Radovid, Triss will instead send Geralt a Perfumed Letter which says “We need to talk as soon as possible. It’s important. -TM.“

Regardless, once you start the quest, you’ll see Triss’ landlords demanding her necklace as rent money for sheltering her against witch hunters in these dangerous times. Your Geralt can either intervene or stay out of it. Even though Triss will initially sound upset if you intervene, this choice won’t impact the romance and is simply there for roleplay reasons.
Saving Anisse & Berthold

After dealing with some guards that ambush the couple, Triss will ask for Geralt’s advice: Triss is trying to get all the mages she can out of the city, but two mages by the names of Anisse and Berthold are missing. You can either forget about them and head straight to Oliver (the innkeeper helping Triss) at Kingfisher Inn or go save them.
IF you choose to save the couple, you have to deal with some pesky guards and witch hunters on the way there. Once you reach the hideout, you’ve to act quick to save both mages, otherwise one or both of them will die. Don’t worry; their death won’t affect the romance.
Going to Kingfisher Inn

If you go here after helping Anisse and Berthold, Oliver will unfortunately die. If you want to keep him alive, you have to forget about saving Anisse and Berthold.
Going into the Sewers

At Kingfisher Inn, Triss will lead us downstairs. This is where we meet all the mages she had gathered, plus Dijkstra. After Triss is finished talking, you must follow her and clear the path ahead. The tunnels are filled with several Mucknixers and when you reach a dead end on the right path, you should activate your Witcher Senses to look for a wall that can be destroyed with Aard.
This leads to a library. Check the far left wall, which can also be destroyed with Aard. Move further down and deal with the annoying Rats. Don’t be fooled by the easy-to-kill Rats; there will be a Katakan further ahead in a room. Kill it and continue through the tunnels until you reach the exit.
Locking in the Triss Romance

Geralt and Triss head out of the sewers and reach the docks where they meet Dijkstra again. You and your allies have to fight some witch hunters again. After that, Dijkstra will start a conversation with Geralt. But Geralt is more interested in what Triss has to say. As Triss is saying goodbye, you have the romance’s most vital decision in front of you:

- Farewell, Triss.
- Stay with me.
Pick “Stay with me.” to lock in your Triss Romance.

Afterward, there will another dialogue option. Pick “I love you.” to progress forward. Picking any other option will lock you out of the romance. Triss pretends she’s leaving, but she’ll actually stay. Once Dijkstra leaves, Geralt and Triss will go to the lighthouse, where the famous lighthouse romance scene take place.

The Witcher 3 Triss Romance Ending

If you’ve been following the steps to Triss’ Romance correctly so far, and you don’t try to romance Yennefer along the way, Geralt will make a life with Triss in the ending. They both move to Kovir, because Triss has found a lucrative job opportunity as the advisor to the king there. And Geralt of Rivia gets to have some fun once in a while with the few-and-far-between Witcher Contracts.
The Witcher 3 Triss Romance Bonus Ending in Toussaint

When you reach the ending of the Blood and Wine DLC, Geralt will get a surprise visit from either Yennefer or Triss. Triss and Geralt will sit outside to talk and enjoy the weather. Triss will mention how she’s past her “exciting adventurous” era and simply wants to enjoy the peace. Geralt catches up with her and asks her opinion about his vineyard.

Geralt also flirts with Triss and makes a reference to the maze scene at the “A Matter of Life and Death” quest. They discuss how life would be like in Toussaint, but Triss clears things up by saying they can enjoy the sun here, but will move back north to Kovir again. Sadly, that’s all there is in terms of Witcher 3 Triss Romance in this DLC. There is no kiss scene or anything.
