Cyberpunk 2077 Lifepath: Nomad, Corpo & Street Kid Explained

Before V becomes one of Night City’s most dangerous mercenaries, Cyberpunk 2077 lets you decide who they were before the story began. The Cyberpunk 2077 lifepath system gives you three different backgrounds to choose from: Nomad, Street Kid, and Corpo. Each one changes V’s introduction and gives the character a different connection to the world around them.
After the opening sequence, all three lifepaths eventually lead V into the same main storyline. The biggest difference is how V views Night City and how certain conversations play out throughout the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 Lifepaths Explained
The three lifepaths represent completely different versions of V’s past. A Nomad V comes from outside the city and enters Night City as an outsider. A Street Kid V already understands the streets. A Corpo V begins with experience inside one of the most powerful systems in the Cyberpunk universe: corporate politics.

Your choice mainly changes dialogue options and character flavor. Some conversations will give V additional knowledge or a different way to approach a situation, but no lifepath provides a direct gameplay advantage.
This makes the decision more about the story you want to experience rather than choosing the strongest option.
Nomad Lifepath
The Cyberpunk 2077 Nomad lifepath begins far away from Night City, in the harsh and open environment of the Badlands. Nomad V has lived outside the control of megacorporations and city authorities, relying on independence, survival skills, and connections with their clan.
At the beginning of the game, V is trying to leave their old life behind and enter Night City for the first time.

This creates a different perspective compared to the other lifepaths because V is discovering the city alongside the player.
Street Kid Lifepath
The Cyberpunk 2077 Street Kid lifepath starts with V already connected to Night City’s underground culture. This version of V grew up around fixers, gangs, and the people trying to survive beneath the shadow of powerful corporations.

Unlike Nomad V, Street Kid V does not need an introduction to the city. They already understand its neighborhoods and the unwritten rules that keep people alive.
Corpo Lifepath
The Cyberpunk 2077 Corpo lifepath offers a very different version of V.
Instead of starting as an outsider or street survivor, Corpo V begins as someone working inside the corporate world.
Before becoming a mercenary, V works for Arasaka in a corporate intelligence role. This gives V knowledge of how powerful companies operate and how information, manipulation, and loyalty shape the world of Night City.

For players interested in the political and darker side of Cyberpunk’s world, Corpo offers one of the most unique role-playing experiences.
What Is the Best Lifepath in Cyberpunk 2077?
There is no single best Cyberpunk 2077 lifepath. Each option changes the way you experience V’s story, but none of them makes your character stronger or limits your choices later.
The best lifepath depends on the type of character you want to role-play:
- Nomad is ideal if you want V to feel like a newcomer trying to find their place in Night City.
- Street Kid works best if you want V already to understand the city’s streets and criminal world.
- Corpo is the best choice if you enjoy stories about power, betrayal, and corporate conflicts.
For a first playthrough, any of the three choices can work. Your lifepath will not decide V’s final destination, but it changes the journey and the way you experience one of gaming’s most detailed futuristic worlds.
