Nivalis Nights Curfew Guide: What to Do & Where to Sleep

The Nivalis Nights curfew can catch you off guard fast. It starts at 2:00 AM, and that’s when a normal late-night stroll can turn into a small CorpSec problem. During curfew, travel becomes restricted and CorpSec cameras and drones patrol the streets. That’s also when your Security Awareness starts to matter a lot more if you’re somewhere you shouldn’t be.

The good news is that getting caught outside after 2:00 AM doesn’t mean you’ve ruined the night. You can either find a public shelter or deliberately stay out to steal and sabotage rival businesses while avoiding CorpSec security. I found out pretty quickly that curfew isn’t really Nivalis telling you to go to bed, it’s more like the city asking, “So, how much trouble are you planning to cause tonight?”

What Time Does Curfew Start in Nivalis Nights?

Curfew starts at 2:00 AM in the current version of Nivalis Nights. Before it begins, the game gives you a one-minute warning telling citizens to clear the streets and get inside.

I wouldn’t treat that warning as an automatic “run home immediately” message, though. What matters is knowing where you’re going to spend the night. If your apartment is close, heading home is the easiest option. If you’re in another district when curfew hits, you can use one of the public shelters instead.

Once the restriction is active, getting back home can become much harder because normal transport options aren’t something you can rely on, which is why trying to cross the city after 2:00 AM is usually the wrong move.

What Happens During Curfew?

The biggest change is CorpSec security. Cameras watch parts of the streets while drones move through the district. Their lights act as detection zones, so walking straight through one can raise your Security Awareness. The HUD also shows a separate Security Level.

Being detected doesn’t instantly end the night. You can keep moving and still reach a shelter or your home. This makes curfew less like an automatic failure state and more like a restricted nighttime phase where getting around becomes riskier.

ION LANDS confirms that day and night are meant to provide different gameplay opportunities and specifically points out that there is “a curfew for a reason.”

How to Find a Shelter During Curfew

If you’re stranded away from your apartment, look for a public shelter rather than trying to force your way back across the city. Press C to use the HUD scan. During curfew, a shelter can appear with an apartment-style marker. When you reach the correct door, the interaction says Enter Apartment rather than asking you to rent it. Go inside and use the bed to sleep until the next day.

This is especially useful during your first curfew, when the game can give you a Find a Shelter objective. The shelter isn’t another property you need to buy. It’s simply a safe place to end the night. One thing about the system that really confuses me is that the shelter I found doesn’t appear the same way during the daytime. It is detectable at night, while the same location no longer produces the shelter marker after morning arrives.

Can You Sleep on Your Boat During Curfew?

Yes. If curfew catches you while you’re already out on your boat, you don’t necessarily need to return to an apartment. Interact with the sofa inside the boat and you can sleep there to advance to the next day. That makes the boat very useful if you’ve spent the night fishing or ended up far from a convenient apartment or shelter. I wouldn’t go out of my way to return to the boat once curfew has already locked down travel, but if you’re already there, sleeping on it is a simple way to end the night.

Can You Steal During Curfew?

Yes, and this is actually one of curfew’s intended uses. You can avoid security systems during curfew and sabotage competing businesses. Also, keep it in mind that the same kinds of things you do to rivals can happen to your own businesses.

You can enter certain businesses and take movable furniture or equipment. Once you’ve grabbed an object, you cannot sprint while carrying it, so you’ll need to watch camera and drone routes while taking it back to your own business.

Stolen equipment can then be sold. I sold the haul and brought in roughly 1,000 Lim, but that’s an example from one night rather than a fixed amount you should expect every time.

How Does Security Awareness Work?

Illegal activity during curfew raises Security Awareness, but there doesn’t appear to be one fixed percentage for every action.

In the video below, stealing an item initially added 10% Security Awareness. On another night, the same action added 20% per item. After several quieter nights, the amount returned to 10%. That means it’s safer to treat the increase as variable rather than assuming every stolen item always costs exactly 10%.

Security lights can also add Awareness when they catch you. The same footage shows a brief contact with a surveillance light increasing the meter by roughly 4%, but I wouldn’t treat 4% as a universal detection value because the amount isn’t established as fixed. The practical rule is simple: the closer you get to 100%, the less room you have to keep stealing or moving carelessly.

What Happens at 100% Security Awareness?

Reaching 100% Security Awareness can lead to a penalty the following morning. A 50-Lim fine is one possible consequence, so pushing the meter all the way to the top usually isn’t worth squeezing in one more theft.

The safer move is to stop before Security Awareness maxes out and find a shelter. Curfew doesn’t immediately fail when the meter gets high, but hitting 100% gives CorpSec a reason to make you pay for it the next day.

Are There Quests That Require Curfew?

Yes. Curfew isn’t just a punishment system; some content specifically uses it. The official Rat Whisperer achievement requires you to help Gladstone on a secret mission during curfew. The relevant quest markers also appear during the nighttime curfew period rather than behaving like an ordinary daytime objective.

That fits with the way ION LANDS describes the overall day/night system. Night isn’t simply daytime with darker lighting. Curfew changes where you can go safely or which opportunities become available.

What Should You Actually Do When Curfew Starts?

If you aren’t deliberately staying out for a quest or sabotage, your best move is to decide where you’re sleeping as soon as the one-minute warning appears. Go home when your apartment is nearby. If you’re stranded in another district, scan for a shelter and sleep there instead. If you’re already on your boat, use its sofa.

And if you’re intentionally taking advantage of curfew, keep an eye on Security Awareness and learn the paths of cameras and drones before carrying stolen equipment through the streets. Once I understood that curfew wasn’t simply a “get home before 2:00 or lose” mechanic, it made a lot more sense.

It’s really a separate nighttime phase: you can play it safe and sleep, or stay outside and use the restricted streets for quests and sabotage while dealing with CorpSec security.
