You probably were as surprised as I was when you found out Meursault, the cold, distant Sinner who never seemed to have anyone close to him has a former lover. I’ll explain who Jeanne is, how she’s connected to Meursault, where her name comes from, and what fans think about her. So if you want to know more about this character stay with us.

Who Is Jeanne in Limbus Company?
Jeanne is a Giant of N Corp. and a major supporting character in Canto X: The Gaze Bearing, the tenth Canto and Meursault’s story chapter. She is not a playable Sinner.
In this Canto, the Sinners enter the Grand Magasin Sisyphe to save Meursault after he receives the Sisyphe Penalty. It’s a huge shopping mall that doesn’t exist in the real world, and the Giants control it through their voices. That’s where Jeanne comes in: She is one of four Voices that the people trapped in Sisyphe worship. She watches over them as their overseer and takes part in making N Corp’s Canned Experiences. Her voice also seems to work as the mall’s Customer Announcement System.
Limbus Company Jeanne Personality
She’s talkative, dramatic, and very expressive. She calls Meursault by pet names and finds his bluntness funny. But she also has a dark side. She says she fears her own sensations and thoughts, and she asks why she had to be born human.
Jeanne and Meursault’s Relationship Explained
This is where things get interesting. We all know Meursault to be a very distant person and can’t imagine him loving someone but he did! Him and Jeanne were lovers before the events of Canto X. Meursault lived in N Corp his whole life and worked on the Maintenance and Management Team at the Grand Magasin Sisyphe headquarters, which is how he met Jeanne. Their relationship lasted over a year, and they celebrated their first anniversary at Pont Royal.
Jeanne also knew Meursault’s mother, a Giant who worked beside her. Meursault killed his mother at her own request, which damaged N Corp’s property and production. He was put on trial and exiled from District 14. Jeanne used her position to help him, but they couldn’t continue so far apart and ended their relationship when they learned about his exile.
Her feelings didn’t disappear, though. When Meursault came back to N Corp, she rushed to the courthouse and quietly tried to keep him from getting the Sisyphe Penalty.
Jeanne’s role in Meursault’s story is still one of the biggest mysteries introduced in Canto 10. Is Jeanne Based on Marie Cardona From The Stranger?
Yes. Meursault comes from Albert Camus’s 1942 novella The Stranger, and Jeanne is based on Marie Cardona, his love interest in the book.
Similarities:
- In the book, Marie is Meursault’s former coworker. In Limbus Company, Jeanne and Meursault also worked together.
- Marie and Meursault go on a cinema date in the book. Jeanne mentions their cinema date too.
- Marie is fascinated by Meursault’s strange behavior but also worries it could make her hate him one day. Jeanne feels both the fascination and the hurt from his bluntness.
The name: Since The Stranger by Albert Camus stays under copyright in South Korea until 2030, Project Moon decided to go with a different name for Mary due to copyright reasons.
Jeanne Theories and Fan Speculation
Everything in this section is fan speculation. Project Moon hasn’t confirmed any of it.
The Jeanne-Marie Lanvin Theory
Some fans point out that Jeanne-Marie Lanvin was a French fashion designer who founded the fashion house Lanvin. Her name contains both “Jeanne” and “Marie,” and the Grand Magasin Sisyphe is full of clothing shops. The idea is that Project Moon blended Marie Cardona with Lanvin. It’s a fun theory, but it has less evidence than the Marie Cardona link.
The Binah and Arbiter Theory
Some players on Reddit compare Jeanne’s design and accessories to Binah and wonder if she’s connected to the Arbiters or The Head. This is based only on visual details and themes. There is no story evidence yet.
Will Jeanne Get a Bigger Role or Become Playable?
