How to Fish Crossplay: What Multiplayer Actually Looks Like

Here’s the honest answer up front. How to Fish, the physics-based fishing game from Dazed Games, doesn’t have crossplay in the way people usually mean it. There’s no Xbox or PlayStation version to cross over with, at least not yet. Dazed Games has confirmed on its official site that console and Mac versions are planned, though no timeline has been announced.

As of this writing it’s a Steam release for Windows, full stop. In other words, How to Fish crossplay is limited only to PC and Steam.

That’s not the end of the story, though, How to Fish does support online multiplayer for up to 8 players, just entirely within the Steam/PC ecosystem.

What How to Fish Actually Is

How to Fish launched on Steam on August 20, 2026, with a premise that is as chaotic as it is simple. You’re out drinking and boating and you end up crashing into a small island. Suddenly, your only way home is to learn how to fish and use baits. Alongside catching fish, you’ll upgrade your gear and take on boss fights.

So Why No How to Fish Crossplay?

Crossplay requires something to play across, a PC version and a console version, at minimum.

Right now, How to Fish only exists on Steam for Windows. If you and a friend are both playing on a Windows PC through Steam, you’re not dealing with crossplay at all. You’re just playing regular Steam multiplayer, which is a simpler thing.

Dazed Games has confirmed that console and Mac ports are on the roadmap, just without a release window. So while crossplay isn’t happening today, it isn’t ruled out either.

How to Play with Friends in How to Fish

Follow these steps if you want to play with your friends:

Click on “Join Game”

Use your ID and join or use Find Steam friends button.

How to Host a Game

Click on “Host Game”.

Enter name of the game and then choose the session type.

How the Multiplayer Actually Works in How to Fish Game

How to Fish supports Online Co-op and Multiplayer features, supporting 1 to 8 players. A few things worth knowing before you try to jump in with friends:

  • It doesn’t appear to have automated matchmaking. But a Public lobby will let strangers join if you choose that setting.
  • Joining uses Steam’s normal tools. Players have been sharing numeric join codes with each other in the Steam community hub, alongside the usual Steam friend-invite options. If a friend sends you a code or an invite, that’s how you’ll actually get into their game.
  • Steam Family Sharing is supported, so if you and someone in your household share a Steam library, that’s one legitimate way to get a second copy running without buying twice.

If you’re not on Steam

There’s currently no other storefront listing for the game, no console version, no separate PC launcher release that’s been announced.

If you’re hoping to play with a friend on a console, that’s not an option today.
