Sovereign Tower Ursula: Recruit, Romance, Stats

Alright, Grace, let’s talk about the goth queen of Sovereign Tower (and one of my favorite ones). Ursula is the emo loner who stares into the void (and the void stares back) and somehow still ends up being one of the most useful and potentially tragic knights you can bring on.

She’s the one who makes the tower feel a little darker and a little cooler. You can recruit her on cycle 5, she is the best for solo missions. She’s a romance option too. In this guide, I’ll cover everything I know about her. So, don’t skip it.

How to Recruit Ursula

She shows up as a standard candidate in Cycle 5 during the noon audience phase.

You’ll already be juggling the Dragon Knight ultimatum prep (Kill the Beast, etc.), and then this pale, deadpan knight walks in like she just crawled out of a particularly stylish graveyard.

Quests, mud, hollow glory, she’s done with the usual knight nonsense. She takes comfort in graveyards. Family is a cracked shield. Hire her or don’t, whatever.

You get a clear choice: accept her into the Round Table or turn her away. It’s up to you.

Just Take Her

There’s basically zero reason to refuse. She’s available right when you need more bodies, her starting kit is strong in the right places, she sticks around for the long haul (with some very interesting caveats).

Once you accept, she’s officially yours. No special quest chain or secret flag required for the base recruitment. Just pure Cycle 5 candidacy.

Note: Some deeper story paths involving Mathilda/rebellion stuff can make her show up earlier or differently after a demon rewind, but the reliable, standard way is Cycle 5.

Starting Stats & Kit

The table below shows starting stats for Ursula:

Level1
Armour5
STR3
AGI4
CHA2
MAG7
WIT7
LCK0

She’s a Magic (Wit) specialist with almost no Charisma and zero LCK. That low CHA is the first thing that tells you do not send this girl to smile at nobles.

The high Magic and Wit make her excellent for investigation, research, relic work, and anything arcane-adjacent.

Ursula’s Attributes in Sovereign Tower

Her known right away attribute is Jaded and this means +1 on Unethical quests, –1 on Track.

Hidden ones (these are active from day one, you just don’t see the tags yet):

  • Loner: Score bonus when she does a quest alone. This is huge. She actually performs better without company.
  • Musician: +1 on Musical quests.
  • Ritual Subject: Story attribute tied to her background (mom issues, basically). Affects certain outcomes and dialogue.
  • Immortal: She can be recruited again after dying on a quest. This is both a blessing and a massive red flag.

She also has a hidden dislike of Magic Ritual.

Preferences & Affinity Management

What she likes? Relic Recovery (+1.33 affinity). Dislike: Diplomacy (–0.75 affinity). Hidden dislike: Magic Ritual.

She actually likes Audacious choices and dislikes Wise ones. Lean into the bold, slightly unhinged ruler energy if you want her to like you.

Affinity gates her personal conversations, so keep her topped up if you want the full story and romance path. She starts at 0 like everyone else. Drop her to –7 and she’ll resign (and with Immortal she can come back, but it’s messy).

Oh, and her favorite meals are Préfou and Lion’s Taco. Don’t forget that.

How to Actually Use Her

I’ve been playing the game for several days and I’ve seen many walkthroughs. So I can say that now I know the best ways to use Ursula in Sovereign Tower:

  • Send her alone whenever possible. Loner is real and strong.
  • Relic Recovery, investigation, woods scouting, musical stuff and anything that rewards high Wit are her playground.
  • Avoid pure Diplomacy and anything that screams be charming and talk to people. She is an introvert.
  • Be careful with Magic Ritual quests because she hates them under the hood.
  • She’s solid on the early Kill the Beast (with Gwendan), Oracular Cheese, Woods Investigation, etc.

Level her Magic and Wit first. She’s not a frontline tank and she doesn’t need to be.

The Death Arc (Big Spoiler Warning)

Ursula has one of the darkest evolution paths in the game. Every time she dies on a quest, a counter ticks up. After the third death she fully corrupts: +4 STR, +6 MAG, but –4 AGI, –15 CHA, –15 WIT.

From the first death onward, her armour starts getting halved every cycle and she stops leveling normally. Facing the Kingslayer can also lock her into full corruption.

There’s late-game interaction with Victoria where the latter can try to take her. You get options to fight, duel, or try to rescue her. Don’t treat her as disposable just because of Immortal, the corrupted version is a very different (and sadder) knight.

Romance Notes

Yes, she’s romanceable. Drink the weird concoctions she makes (Firetwig in Cycle 6 is a classic affinity scene), talk about graveyards, the void, her family issues, the moon and lean into the shared melancholy.

She went to therapy in her backstory so she’s self-aware about unhealthy situations. You’ll need to show you’re doing the work.

A friendly warning: Double-romancing her and the Lady of the Tower (the statue) can tank her affinity hard and make her leave. She does not love sharing. If you’re going for Ursula, maybe keep the basement situationship on the down-low.
