Sovereign Tower Romance Guide | How It Works and Who You Can Romance

Sovereign Tower romance is officially advertised and fully completable. You can stop the murder in Act 2, but you can’t stop love, apparently. So who can you actually romance, and why do so many players end up knight-zoned instead? Keep reading. The game confirms more than you would think, and it hides a number you never see.

Disclaimer: As the game was just recently released, the information about its romance is still raw. I will update this guide. Check again later.

Sovereign Tower Romance Options

Sovereign Tower has an achievement called “Love Is All,” and its requirement is one line: complete a romance. So yes, there is romance in this game.

Your knights are the obvious targets, but romance is not limited to the Round Table. Two reviewers confirm tower staff can have romantic moments too. The developer’s own page points you to the Lady of the Tower if you like romancing stone statues, and she has her own achievement, “A True Love Kiss.” She is a talking statue. I know how that sounds.

Note: Arlin is a married man and a happy father. So he is a no-no for romance.

How Romance Works in Sovereign Tower

Every knight starts at 0 affinity on a scale of -10 to +10. Affinity determines the free-time conversations where most of a knight’s story lives, so romance sits downstream of the same number that stops knights quitting on you. Hit -7, and they resign.

Food they like and quests they enjoy move affinity, not quest performance. Quest results feed it too, since big successes lift the whole party while a major failure drags it down. Here are the exact values:

ActionAffinity change
Favourite meal fed+1.5
Liked quest type or condition+1.33
Disliked quest type or condition-0.75
Resignation threshold-7

Preferences stack. The right quest with two liked conditions is worth close to +4, a fifth of the entire scale from one dispatch.

What Kills a Sovereign Tower Romance

Your ruling style is the quiet killer. Angelica and Rufus like Kind rulers, Dulahan dislikes Kind, Gwendan wants Wise, and Gideon and Ursula both want Audacious. Commit to one archetype and you practically close routes elsewhere. Archetypes also level up, so the damage compounds. Also, there is the multi-romance penalty:

CharacterPenalty
Ursula-20
Gideon-18
Ligia-7
Oliver-7

Affinity only reaches +10, so a -20 is double the entire positive range. There are 24 knights and 10 seats at most; you cannot dismiss anyone once invited, and dead knights stay dead. The clock ends the game whether you are ready or not.

Note: The demon’s rewind is your only recovery, and it keeps your archetype progress.

Why Your Sovereign Tower Romance Isn’t Progressing

There is no relationship strength tracker. Affinity is running silently from -20 to +10 behind the scenes; some scenes are randomised or locked behind barriers you cannot see, and you get no readout at all.

The game does give you a verdict, though. One player trying to romance Rufus reported ending up “knight-zoned,” with the game describing Rufus as full of distrust regarding his love. That reads like a real end-state, not a stalled meter. His thread has zero replies.

Here is the honest part. Diego Argüello at The Wand Report criticised the opposite problem: that flirt options are always sitting there even when you never initiated anything. Other sources say affinity gates the scenes. Both can be true if availability is generous and completion is not. Flirting and completing a romance are different things.

That’s all there is to know about Sovereign Tower romance. (so far, at least). Have you flirted with anyone so far? Let me know your drama in the comments. (Please!)

FAQ

Can you play as a female Sovereign?

There is no gender selection option. A Wild Wits developer explained the Sovereign’s identity is deliberately never revealed so you can project yourself onto the role however you like.

Why does the game call the Sovereign “sire” and “his majesty” then?

That is a localisation constraint, not a bug. The developer says masculine wording is an assumption other characters make, not a fact about you. It still reads oddly in English.

Are same-sex romances possible?

Yes. The Punished Backlog finished the game and confirmed the Sovereign can pursue romance with characters of all gender identities.

Does a favourite meal mean a character is romanceable?

No. Every knight has favourite dishes, and feeding them only raises affinity. Keep the two things separate.
