Risk of Rain 2 Hallowed Shrine: Location, Hexes & Rewards

The Hallowed Shrine appears near the Teleporter after you finish its event while holding at least one Hex (grabbed from Concept Reliquaries).

Embrace Life trades your Hexes for rewards that can include strong Hallowed Items, while Embrace Death gives you three more Hexes for better future payouts or the ten-Hex skin unlocks, with seven Hexes looking like the current reward sweet spot.

Here’s the no-nonsense rundown on finding it and cleaning your Hexes. Follow the text for more details.

Where to Find the Hallowed Shrine in ROR2

The Hallowed Shrine pops up near the Teleporter once you’ve finished its event, but only if you’re holding at least one Hex.

First step is to grab a Hex. The easiest way I know is interacting with a Concept Reliquary (those little clasped-hands interactables). They hand you a Hex and get the whole party started.

With a Hex in your inventory, activate the Teleporter, fully charge it and drop the boss. Once the fight’s over and the Teleporter is done, just scan the surrounding area. You’re looking for a weird tree with two hands and that distinctive aurora-style glow floating above it. Don’t worry, it’s pretty hard to miss once you know what you’re hunting.

It’s not locked to any specific map location. Don’t waste time searching before the fight, it won’t be there yet.

How to Use the Hallowed Shrine

The shrine gives you two clear choices: Embrace Life (Hand of Life) or Embrace Death (Hand of Death). Make sure you grab the correct hand.

Hand of Life: Cleanse Hexes and Get Rewards

Hit the white hand for Embrace Life. This is the “I’m done suffering” option. You trade in whatever Hexes you’ve collected for rewards (up to 7 Hexes). A little reward orb shows up and offers item choices based on how many Hexes you just dumped. Those Hexes get removed as part of the deal.

This is the move when the debuffs are starting to feel oppressive or you’re hunting Hallowed Items.

You don’t need a massive stack. Even a handful of Hexes can be exchanged, the rewards just won’t be as strong.

Hand of Death: Get Three More Hexes

Black hand, Embrace Death. Instead of removing Hexes, this option straight-up gives you three more. Yes, that means more negative effects. The upside? Bigger Hex stacks usually mean better reward potential when you finally decide to Embrace Life later.

It’s also the go-to move if you’re chasing those survivor skin challenges that require finishing a run with at least ten Hexes still active.

How Hallowed Shrine Rewards Work

Cleansing Hexes produces a Hallowed Potential, which offers up to three item picks depending on how many Hexes you exchanged. At seven Hexes, you can receive three selections, with better chances of getting powerful Hallowed Items.

You don’t need all seven Hexes to get a Hallowed Item, though. Smaller exchanges can still produce one, but they more commonly reward regular items.

Seven Hexes is therefore a good target if you’re trying to maximize your rewards from a single exchange. Just remember that holding onto dangerous Hexes like Blindness or Loss can make surviving the next stage much harder.

If your build can handle the pain, push for a bigger exchange. If the Hexes are already threatening the run, cleanse earlier. A dead run gets you zero rewards.

Why Is the Hallowed Shrine Not Spawning?

Ran a few stages and still no shrine? First check: do you actually have a Hex? This is the question you should ask, because the shrine is tied directly to the Hex system. Finish a Teleporter event with zero Hexes and you won’t see it.

Already holding a Hex? Make sure the Teleporter event is fully completed (charged plus boss dead). The shrine appears after, not during exploration.

Double-check the area right around the Teleporter before you leave the stage, the glow makes it pretty obvious.

I read some early reports suggestting that grabbing the N’tormat might make shrine appearances more consistent. I’d say it’s worth trying too.

And obviously, Hallowed Concepts needs to be enabled for the run. No DLC, no shrine (anyway, only one player in a multiplayer lobby needs to own the DLC to enable its content for everyone).

If you’ve checked all of the above and it’s still missing, there’s no rock-solid guaranteed fix yet. It might just be a bug.

How to Use the Hallowed Shrine to Unlock Skins

Our lovely shrine is also key for several new survivor skins. MUL-T, Mercenary, Loader, Railgunner, Void Fiend and False Son all unlock their Hallowed Concepts skins by finishing a full run while still holding at least ten Hexes.

Easiest path: collect Hexes from Concept Reliquaries and keep picking Embrace Death every time the shrine shows up.

Each Embrace Death gives three Hexes. Three interactions get you to nine, so you’ll need at least one more Hex from somewhere if you started from zero.

Once you hit ten, do not Embrace Life if you’re going for the skin. Cleansing removes the Hexes you need to carry to the end.

Any normal ending works, including beating Mithrix and escaping, as long as you finish the run with the required Hex count still active.

For regular runs (not skin hunting), I’d usually Embrace Life the moment the penalties start feeling dangerous. A strong Hallowed Item is cool until you’re dead and it doesn’t matter.
