RDR2 Naval Compass Location & Pearson’s Request

In Red Dead Redemption 2, if you play poker with Simon Pearson between 8 AM and 2 PM during Chapters 2-4, chances are he’ll talk about his lost Naval Compass, to which Arthur says he’ll find him a new one. You can find the compass inside the boathouse at Braithwaite Manor. He’ll give you Guarma Rum in return.
Let’s dig deeper and see how to complete Pearson’s request.

Where to Find the Naval Compass in RDR2
The Naval Compass is inside the boathouse at Braithwaite Manor. That sounds simple, but Braithwaite Manor isn’t exactly small. The mansion sits on a huge plantation. So you have to know exactly where to go. Braithwaite Manor is south of Rhodes and the boathouse is west of the mansion.

You have to head toward the water and look for a wooden building with a boat inside. You’ll find the compass sitting on a table.

There’s another Naval Compass in the lockbox at the back of Ashton’s stagecoach during Fatherhood and Other Dreams, but Braithwaite Manor is the much easier option. You can also check our RDR2 item requests guide for the rest of the gang’s errands.
How to Trigger Pearson’s Naval Compass Request
Pearson talks about the Naval Compass he lost if you decide to play poker with him at camp during Chapters 2, 3, or 4. The usual time window for this request is 8 AM to 2 PM.
You need to play poker with Pearson and wait for him to mention how he lost his compass while serving in the navy. Sometimes he doesn’t mention it. To trigger the request, you can sit beside Pearson or bust another player out of the poker game.

However, I have to let you know that neither is a confirmed requirement. Sometimes Pearson mentions his lost compass when you sit across from him. Once you’ve received the request, bring him the compass to earn Guarma Rum.
Why Can’t You Give Pearson the Naval Compass?
You can collect the Naval Compass before Pearson ever asks for it. But keep in mind that just because you have the compass in your satchel, it doesn’t automatically trigger his request, which is why you might approach him and find no option to hand it over.

Your best bet is to play poker with him until the conversation happens. If the request is already active, just approach Pearson when he isn’t busy with camp duties. Sometimes Arthur can give him the compass without the usual dialogue playing. It’s a lot of effort for a bottle of rum, but that’s camp life in the Wild West, I suppose.
