Onimusha: Way of the Sword Trophies Guide: Everything We Know So Far

I hate to break it to you. But there’s no official Onimusha: Way of the Sword trophy list anywhere… yet. The game releases on September 4. So we will have to wait until tonight. But I ploughed through everything for all of you impatient fans who need a little fix. Here’s everything actually confirmed so far. (If you’re just here for the leaked trophies, scroll to the bottom).
Disclaimer: The confirmed list is yet to be released. I’ll update this page the moment the real list drops.
What You’ll Read:
When the Trophy List Will Actually Go Live
Way of the Sword releases worldwide at 9:00 PM PDT tonight, which is 12:00 AM EDT on September 4. Every edition unlocks at the same moment, so there’s no early access tier giving anyone a head start.
As of today, every major trophy site confirms the list isn’t public: PlayStationTrophies says to check back closer to launch. So you will have to wait a bit, but don’t we know anything at all?
What’s Likely the Hardest Trophy Requirement
Carnage is the hard mode, and it only unlocks after you beat the game once. So expect it to have at least one trophy. Many players report (in agony!) that a single hit can kill you on Carnage, comparing it to Ghost of Tsushima’s Lethal difficulty. New Game Plus exists too, and I specifically recommend running Carnage there instead of attempting it blind.
Here’s the part that actually matters for a completion run: the Practice Ground. It’s an unlockable area where you train with moves you’ve picked up, and it includes a Boss Rematch mode.
Rematches drop weapon and armor upgrade materials, and more importantly, they mean bosses aren’t locked to your first playthrough. If there’s a trophy for beating every boss on Carnage, you probably won’t need a second full run just to get it.

Upgrade Systems to Track for Full Completion
There are four upgrade tracks, each running on its own resources:
| System | Tiers | What it improves |
|---|---|---|
| Clothing | 10 | Health, stamina |
| Sword | 10 | Damage |
| Oni Gauntlet | 5 | Oni Meter, power |
| Skills (Oni Stones / Power Stones) | — | Passive skills, Oni Weapon skills |
Red souls fund most of these tracks, and there’s a separate skill tree on top for the Oni weapons and other abilities you unlock as you go. Maxing everything out is the obvious shape for a “fully upgraded” or completion-style trophy. So these numbers are worth tracking down.
Side Quests That Could Affect Missable Trophies
Only the first instance of each side quest type is mandatory. Everything past that is technically optional. However, some essential upgrades are behind some of them anyway. So if you skip them, you will lose some of the gear that you may want.
There are two types of side quests: Mysteries of Kyoto are story-driven and tied to a character named Murasaki, and Chance Encounters are more generic NPC requests. Some Chance Encounters task you with finding enemies or locations the map doesn’t mark, which is exactly the kind of thing that turns into an annoying completion trophy.

Note: The annoying thing is that later abilities open up treasure spots in areas you’ve already cleared. Even if you sweep an area for collectibles early, you will still miss things!
Early Onimusha Trophy List Leak (Unconfirmed)
An unofficial, no-spoiler trophy breakdown surfaced on YouTube ahead of launch, reading out full trophy names and descriptions. No trophy authority has confirmed it. So treat this as a leak, not a list, until the real one goes live tonight.
However, it does line up with almost everything reviewers already confirmed. There are trophies for finishing all Mysteries of Kyoto and Chance Encounters, maxing out the Hozuki healing pouch, and completing the skill tree. The two likely platinum blockers are gold trophies, finishing the game on Carnage, and beating every boss in Boss Rematch mode across every difficulty.
If this is true, expect the platinum to lean almost entirely on combat and completion (parries, Issen counters, environmental kills) rather than S-ranks or speedrunning, which is in line with reviewers saying neither mode exists.

FAQ
Will there be a platinum trophy?
Almost certainly. Every retail PS5 game ships with one, and an early unconfirmed leak backs this up. Nothing’s official until Capcom’s real list goes live.
Do you lose anything when you die?
No. Despite the soul-collecting systems, this isn’t a Soulslike. Dying just sends you back to your last autosave, with no resource loss involved.
