March of Giants Characters: Every Giant, Their Abilities and How to Unlock them

March of Giants Playtest is out now and the first big question is simple: who can you play? I covers every March of Giants character, what each one does, and how to unlock them all.

There are 17 announced Giants. 16 are playable in the Pioneer Playtest (October 7 to 18, 2026). The 17th, Pandemos, joins on October 12.

In This Guide:

Quick note: This guide is based on the Pioneer Playtest, so things can change before release. I’ll update it when Pandemos gets his full reveal.

All March of Giants Characters (Full Roster)

Every Giant comes from either a Dream or a Nightmare. So far there are 8 of each, and Pandemos is still a mystery. Starter Giants are marked in the table.

Old Names and New Looks

If you played the 2025 Closed Alpha, some names have changed. Brother Light is now Solace, Mole is now Trench Maw, Kraken is now Voidmaster, and Le Poilu is now Wolfgang.

The new looks are a little bit controversial. Some people like it while the others believe the giants don’t look like giants anymore and are too humanlike. I’m with the second group and liked the fantasy like look of the Alpha more.

Melee vs Ranged Giants in March of Giants

Ubisoft splits the roster into two groups. There are 9 melee Giants and 7 ranged Giants (not counting Pandemos).

Melee Giants fight up close. They start fights, take hits, or chase down targets. Victoria, Wolfgang, Voidmaster, Strykka, Kragg, Oriane, Iron Sister, Trench Maw, and Ossuary are all melee.

Ranged Giants fight from a distance. They deal damage, heal, or control fights from behind the front line. Solace, Flint, Malgrove, Dreadnought, Stratus, Goliath, and Elaris are all ranged.

Don’t think of these groups as strict classes. Ubisoft says you can shape each Giant with Kinetic Power, Alchemic Power, soldier-focused builds, and Augments that change abilities. So the same Giant can play in more than one way.

Every March of Giants Character’s Abilities and Playstyle

Ubisoft has published full ability spotlights for seven Giants: Victoria, Wolfgang, Voidmaster, Kragg, Ossuary, Solace, and Elaris. For the other nine, I used playtest videos, so exact ability names may be different in the game. Two players on Reddit also said they couldn’t find ability scaling or cooldowns on the Giant details page, so I left numbers out.

She is in, and she’s one of your starters.

Pandemos (Unknown)

Ubisoft hasn’t shown Pandemos’s abilities yet, so his damage type, role, and ultimate are unknown. Anything you read before the reveal is a guess. I’ll add the real details after it.

How to Unlock More Characters in March of Giants

You start with 4 Giants: Victoria, Solace, Kragg, and Elaris. You also get 4 more random Giants, so you begin with 8 in total. Since those 4 are random, your list can be different from a friend’s.

The rest unlock with Giant Tokens, which you earn from in-game challenges. Ubisoft also gives one free Giant Token if you subscribe to select March of Giants creators. You can use it on any Giant you want during the Pioneer Playtest.

How to Unlock Pandemos in March of Giants

Pandemos has his own unlock, tied to the Pioneer Program. Here’s how it works:

  • Reach 1,000 Pioneer Points to become a Pioneer.
  • Earn points by finishing PvP matches: 100 points for a win, 50 for a loss. Only completed PvP matches count.
  • Want it faster? Unlock a 20% boost (120 for a win, 60 for a loss) by watching a participating streamer on Twitch for 1 hour, or by joining the official March of Giants Discord.
  • Pandemos arrives on October 12 at 10 AM EDT.

That’s 10 wins, 20 losses, or any mix of the two. With the boost, 9 wins is enough. Unlike Giants you unlock with tokens, Pandemos stays unlocked for all future playtests and Early Access. Pioneers also get a Pioneer Medal and a free Early Access Pack. The playtest ends on October 18, so start earning points early.

Best March of Giants Characters for Beginners

The followings are Giants with low complexity. So you can say they are easy to play for a beginner.

  • Kragg: You own this one from the start. A tank that gains defense from attacks makes it easier to survive up front while you learn.
  • Trench Maw: Rated low complexity by that creator. Shell armor and burrowing keep it tough.
  • Flint: Also rated low. Stay back, fire long-range artillery, and use Siege Mode to hit targets far away.
  • Stratus: Rated low too. Tornadoes and storm damage are simple to use and fun to watch.
  • Goliath: Rated low, and a good pick if you like helping your team and soldiers.

I would try Elaris later. She is strong, but she’s easy to punish when caught without her escape.

Will More March of Giants Characters Be Added?

Probably. The team showed concept art for new Giants in the October 7 YouTube premiere and said it is working on them. Nothing is confirmed yet, not even names or abilities. Fans have plenty of guesses, but they are only guesses. Ubisoft plans to launch Early Access in Summer 2027, so more Giants could show up before then. Which Giant are you playing first?
