Fields of Mistria children are finally here. The 1.0 release on 5 August 2026 added marriage and actual babies. Getting a kid takes a Mystical Feather and one conversation with your spouse (whom you’re MARRIED to). It is also completely optional. Here is the whole process.

Can You Have Children in Fields of Mistria?
Yes. NPC Studio added children in the v1.0.0 update on 5 August 2026, and nothing in the v1.0.1 hotfix changed them.
Here is the short version: date a romance candidate, hit 10 hearts, marry them, then wait for a cutscene that gives you the Mystical Feather. Using the Feather opens a family planning talk with your spouse. Say yes, and you get a baby.
You cannot skip straight to the kid. Marriage is a hard requirement, and the Feather only shows up after the wedding. Keep reading to learn more details.
How to Have a Child in Fields of Mistria
Having children in Fields of Mistria needs some requirements that I’ve separated into three parts below:
1. Reach 10 Hearts and Get Married
Date a candidate to the 8-heart event and pick romance over the best-friend route. Caldarus is the exception, offering it at 6 hearts once you finish “Breaking The Final Seal.” Then push to 10. Dates raise hearts faster in the 1.0 version, so use them.
The morning after you hit 10, Elsie mails you the Engagement Ring recipe. Use the scroll, craft the ring at a Forge, then propose. You plan the wedding yourself through dialogue with your fiancé: flower colour, cake flavour, reception meal.
Players usually fall into two traps before they propose: First, engagement drops everyone else you were dating to best friends, and the setting that disables this must be toggled before you confirm; otherwise, it does nothing. Second, with the Ring in hand, you can retrigger other candidates’ 10-heart events and grab their Special Items. Once engaged, that door shuts.
2. Get the Mystical Feather
After the wedding, keep playing normally. A cutscene grants you the Mystical Feather, which unlocks children. The Feather arrives in the weeks following your marriage.
That’s it. There is no house upgrade or nursery requirement. This isn’t Stardew Valley! Fortunately.
3. Start the Family Planning Conversation
Use the Feather, and it opens a family planning conversation with your spouse. Agree, and you are having a child. That unlocks the “Parent” achievement.
How the child actually arrives is the murkiest part right now. A Reddit commenter claimed there are multiple routes: your spouse carries the pregnancy, you carry it, or a magical bird delivers the baby. They said female candidates offer all three and male candidates offer two, and that you can carry regardless of your chosen pronouns.
I would treat it as a rumour worth testing rather than a fact, and I’ll update you when I learn more.
Can You Choose Not to Have a Child?
Yes. The player has full control over whether they have a baby. Marriage does not force a kid on you.
The Feather conversation is a choice, not a cutscene that happens to you. In fact, marriage itself is optional too. So the best-friend route at 8 hearts is still there if you want the relationships without any of this. Although I know you can’t resist having a baby with Stillwell.
What nobody has confirmed is whether declining is permanent, or whether the Feather sticks around so you can change your mind later. If you know, tell me in the comments, and I will update this.
Do Babies Look Like Your Spouse?
Early signs point to yes, and this is the part I am most excited about. A Reddit player’s Caldarus daughter had small horns and facial markings, and in-game text apparently called her a dragon or half-dragon. That is not a generic baby sprite with a palette swap. That is a designed child for a specific spouse.
Another commenter dug through the game files and reported one baby sprite per spouse, a set gender for each, two skin-tone variants, and default names. They gave Caldarus’s default as Tephra, and said the Caldarus and Seridia children both have pointed ears.
Datamined files are not runtime behaviour and can change in a patch. So hold this loosely. But fans wanted spouse-specific kids for years, and it looks like they got them.
All Marriage and Child Achievements
Three of the 69 (no pun intended) Steam achievements track the marriage and family chain. They unlock retroactively, so an existing save gets credit for anything already done.

Best Friend and Romantic are the two halves of the 8-heart fork, so you can collect both in one save using different characters.
Dell, Luc and Maple: Mistria’s Other Children
If you searched for Mistria children and meant the kids already living in town, you want these three. They are ordinary child villagers, not marriage candidates and not related to your baby in any way.

FAQ
Do I need to start a new save to have children?
No. Every existing save carries over with full access to 1.0 content. A Year 3 or 4 farm can start dating, marry, and have a child immediately.
Do I need to upgrade my house or build a nursery first?
No. No official source mentions a house upgrade, a nursery, or a crib purchase as a requirement. That assumption comes from other farm sims, not from Mistria.
Can I marry more than one villager?
Not at once. You marry one of the 12 candidates, and anyone else you were dating becomes a best friend when you get engaged.
Did patch v1.0.1 change anything about children?
No. The v1.0.1 hotfix is almost entirely crash fixes and changes nothing about marriage or children.
