Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Roster (The Complete Character List)

The Avatar Legends Roster consists of 12 fighters for the base game. But the good news is that there are 5 more characters introduced for the Year 1 Pass DLC. So you get 17 characters in total. These nostalgic characters are all hand-drawn in gorgeous 2D animation with precise mechanics. The developers did something even crazier, too. You can pick the last character they design! How? I’ll explain further below.

All 12 Avatar Legends Roster Playable Characters

The base game launches with 12 characters from multiple generations of the franchise. There are classic heroes and iconic antagonists among the Avatar characters. Two characters also have an Avatar state that’s probably the coolest thing you will try first. So without further ado, here is everyone you will meet in the base game:

Aang

Aang moves around a lot and fights from a distance. He uses his air scooter to move across the arena. His supports are: Gyatso, Appa, Momo.

Korra

Korra is another bold close-range OG who dominates opponents with raw force. Her supports are: Naga, Raava, Tonraq.

Katara

Katara controls space with mid-range water whips and freezing ice traps. Her supports are: Kanna, Master Pakku, Hakoda.

Sokka

Sokka relies on items like countering attacks with his club. He usually controls space with boomerangs and traps. His supports are: Suki, Piandao, Yue.

Zuko

For rushdown fans, Zuko applies forward flame pressure and attacks with dual broadswords. His supports are: Mai, June, Ran & Shaw

Toph

Toph Beifong is grounded but full of power. Her seismic sense tracks invisible frames, and she stops attacks with massive earth walls. Her supports are: The Boulder, Badgermole, The Hippo.

Azula

Azula is an oppressive fighter filled with explosive energy. She uses blue fire and lightning setups for strict frame-trap advantages. Her supports are: Li and Lo, Joo Dee, Ursa.

Zaheer

Zaheer is like a floaty airbender who is a master of complex aerial loops and evasive maneuvers.

Kyoshi

Avatar Kyoshi is a slow, heavily armored juggernaut. She has these massive war fans that deal huge single-hit damage. Her supports are: Rangi, Kelsang, Yun.

Ozai

Fire Lord Ozai rules the sky with his air-fighting techniques. He usually bursts the screen and makes a big scene.

Avatar State Aang

Avatar State Aang focuses entirely on pure elemental dominance. Nothing new, but tasteful as always.

Avatar State Korra

Avatar State Korra, also known as Nightmare Korra, is a high-risk variant. She uses unhinged spirit mechanics to crush opponents (which is lots of fun).

Fun Fact: All of these characters are meticulously hand-drawn animations. That means each frame is an artwork on its own. That is INSANE!

Additional Avatar Characters: Year 1 Pass DLC Roster

There is more good news for the Avatar geeks. In addition to the base game, there is also a Year 1 Pass that introduces five extra fighters to the roster. And that’s even the best part. The developers have introduced the first four, but they have left the fifth place for the fans to decide! All the fans who pre-order at least.

The Confirmed Four: Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin, and Bolin

You have seen these four, even if you have not watched Avatar. Especially Uncle Iroh, who always shows up on your feed to say some wise words about life before you go back to doomscrolling again.

  • Uncle Iroh: The Dragon of the West wears his tea-shop look here. He is a firebender with an explosive close-range style and lightning specials.
  • Ty Lee: She is an agile non-bender, just like in the show. She uses circus gymnastics for quick movement and chi-blocking, which briefly shuts down enemy special moves.
  • Lin Beifong: Republic City’s Chief of Police, uses metal cables and whips to swing around and control space. She has a mid-range zoner and a grappling style.
  • Bolin: He is an earthbender who has a boxing style mixed with lavabending. He melts the floor to create an area-of-effect damage. It’s like Mike Tyson with lava around him that he’s immune to. (Although that sounds like a Tuesday for Mike)

How to Vote for The 5th Slot

If you pre-order the game, you get to vote for the final Year 1 Pass character in late summer. Here are the five candidates you can choose from:

CandidateBending Style / ArchetypeGameplay Focus
AmonBloodbending / Evasive GrapplerEerie movement, command grabs, and psychic enemy displacement.
KuviraMetalbending / Precision ZonerMilitaristic efficiency, pinning foes with metal strips.
King BumiEarthbending / Unpredictable SetplayLaunching massive rocks, sinking floors, and chaotic timing.
Asami SatoHigh-Tech / Gadget RushdownElectrified stun gloves, smoke bombs, and mechanical dashes.
TenzinAirbending / Defensive SpacerGiant air-cushion hitboxes, wind walls to erase projectiles.

Avatar The Fighting Game Characters Mechanics

If you think 12 characters is not enough, think again. The character mechanic is built on two major systems:

1. Character Variation: Each fighter has three distinct variations that each offer a different moveset and strategy, such as Zuko’s unique redemption system or Azula’s unhinged Fire Lord stance.

2. Support Characters: Each fighter has 3 support characters. So there are 36 in total. These guys directly upgrade your core abilities. For example, Toph can get The Hippo to improve her stone pillars for long combos, while Korra calls in Naga and Sokka teams up with Suki.

Do you realize what this means? No two matches will look the same, and each fight will be unique. The only thing that can top this is spawning into the actual videogame like that Striking Vipers episode in Black Mirror. For the gaming part, I mean.

I guess that is all of the 17 Avatar Legends Roster. Who is the most exciting to you? I think Avatar State Aang and Ty Lee would be the coolest. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
