Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen Ring of Inversion: Get It & Create a Build

From among the Dark Arisen rings, the Ring of Inversion is one of the more high-risk, high-reward ones. The Ring of Inversion doubles your max Health and cuts your max Stamina in half. I know that sounds like a bad thing, but for a Fighter it could work out beautifully. And wait till you hear you can double down and stack two Rings of Inversion. This quadruples your max HP and drops your max Stamina to a quarter. But the trick is to compensate for dd2the low max Stamina with the level 5 Ancient Helm‘s modifier, Gigantus’s Vim.

To get the Ring of Inversion, you need eight Frostbitten Scarthes from Fimbls in Norgan. Once you’ve collected enough, they automatically transform into a random ring. There is also a farming trick where you can use Ibrahim‘s item forgery and save scumming to get the ring in the fastest way possible.

How to Get the Ring of Inversion

So the bad news is that the Ring of Inversion isn’t a boss drop, nor can you buy it from a shopkeeper like Dwayne, as you can with the DD2 Ring of Virtue. Instead, you need to collect a material called the Frostbitten Scarthe eight times, and even then, there is only a random chance of them turning into a Ring of Inversion. Frostbitten Scarthes can also produce the Ring of Demonsbane, Ring of Gliding, Ring of Soliloquy, or Ring of Spellcraft.

How to Collect Frostbitten Scarthes

First off, you need to find a Fimbl, an ice dragon roaming in Norgan. As part of its drops, Fimbl gives us one or two Frostbitten Scarthes during combat, with another potentially dropping when it dies. I had to fight several Fimbls to get all eight Scarthes. Upon collecting the eighth one, a ring will immediately spawn in your inventory, replacing the Scarthes. Hopefully it’ll be the Ring of Inversion. If not, check the fastest way to farm the Ring of Inversion, or continue fighting Fimbls if you prefer. I recommend the former.

There is another possible way. You can collect five Ephemeral Scarthes. These can also produce the Ring of Inversion, but they might also produce Plunderage, Reversal, Retaliation, Rejuvenescence, Levity, and Avarice, depending on your luck.

Where to Find Fimbls in Norgan

  • Beorcan Stronghold – Frozen Battleground: I encountered a Fimbl near the frozen staircase, accessible through an underground passage. This encounter is also related to the Riddle of the Soul quest.
  • Norgan Snowfield: Here, a Fimbl rests on a snowy plateau near a ruined Riftstone and dragon skeletons.
  • Mountain Stronghold: Another Fimbl can be found in the snow-covered courtyard downhill from the Sealed Study.

Obviously, use fire damage on the Fimbls, and never ice. Watch out for the ice storms it creates and the Silence debilitation it can cast on you or your Pawns.

Can You Get the Ring of Inversion From Ghouls?

No. Ghouls (and Wisps) drop Pulsating Scarthes, not Frostbitten Scarthes. As the name suggests, you need to check the snowy areas and attack creatures related to ice and cold; in this case, the Fimbls.

Fastest Ring of Inversion Farming: Forgery and Save Scumming

Instead of investing so much time finding and killing Fimbls, try this method instead to save yourself plenty of time:

  1. Obtain at least one Frostbitten Scarthe from a Fimbl.
  2. Visit Ibrahim‘s Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town, west of Vernworth.
  3. Ask Ibrahim to forge additional Frostbitten Scarthes. Each one costs 600 Gold.
  4. Continue until you have seven Scarthes ready, without completing the eight-piece set.
  5. Arrange to obtain another Scarthe, then save before collecting it. (Save Scumming FTW)
  6. Pick up the eighth Scarthe and check which ring you receive.
  7. If it isn’t the Ring of Inversion, reload your previous save and try collecting the final Scarthe again.

Do Two Rings of Inversion Stack?

Absolutely. In fact, I suggest you stack them. Why? The added HP is worth the reduced Stamina because during combat Health is more vital than Stamina, especially for fighter builds. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t be smart about it. To make two Rings of Inversion work, one must equip items that bring back that max Stamina back to its original amount, or at least attempts to.

Ring of Inversion Stats and Effects

StatEffect
Max HPDoubled
Max StaminaHalved
Weight0.01 kg

All vocations can equip the ring. Even your Pawns can equip it. This item is especially useful for those of you who are going for a tank build. Just keep in mind to wear items that help with increasing the halved max Stamina. One such item is the Ancient Helm.

Best Combo With LVL 5 Ancient Helm (Gigantus’s Vim)

Imagine you have two Rings of Inversion. Now you want to fix that reduced Stamina. Here’s what you should do: (SPOILERS for the ending of Dark Arisen)

Defeat the true final boss, Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen Satanachia to get a Level 5 Ancient Helm spoil. Have Jiera appraise that relic into wearable equipment. The Level of the Ancient Helm depends on your chance when it’s being appraised. Gigantus’s Vim is a modifier that can be found on the helm. Though the modifier may appear as early as Level 3 Ancient Helm. Keep in mind that Gigantus’s Vim is a randomly generated modifier, not a guaranteed bonus.

Gigantus’s Vim increases Stamina, making it possible to compensate for the ring’s biggest disadvantage. The only downside is that it reduces your Magick Defense as much as it increases your Stamina. What’s worse, it also greatly reduces your Magick Damage as well. So if you’re a Mage, I hardly discourage you from equipping this ring, unless you’re willing to take a really big risk. If you’re a tank, though, you can even try this build on to beat him again. Just remember that Satanachia has Magick-based attacks.

Allheal Elixir is a must for this build if you can afford it. This is a rare consumable item that fully restores your health, stamina, and completely deletes the accumulated loss gauge of your health bar. You can buy it from Eldart’s Apothecary at Sacred Arbor. Once you get one, you can pull the Ibrahim forgery trick for the Allheal Elixir too.

Is the Ring of Inversion Worth Using?

Yes, but only if you’re a Fighter and plan to create a tank build. The Stamina penalty is far too harsh for other vocations to make it worthwhile for them. However, since Fighters’ strength lies in their survivability, the Ring of Inversion is a great choice to boost it even higher. What you should definitely do is equip the Ancient Helm (LVL 5) to get Gigantus’s Vim and optimize your build.

Alex fell in love with video games at the age of 4, when his father bought him his first PC. He considers video games to be the upgraded version of the best books: a form of interactive art. His love of RPGs comes from the fact that he can spend hours immersed in a fictional universe and make choices that have meaningful impacts on the story. As a child, Alex would often spend hours trying to figure out the side quests in random games. There were no internet guides back then, so he knows exactly how frustratingly confusing or borderline impossible games can get. He intends to dedicate himself to saving other gamers from suffering the same fate.
