Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen Ring of Virtue: Effects & Unlock Guide

Disclaimer: This guide contains SPOILERS for the plot and ending of the Dragon’s Dogma II Dark Arisen expansion.
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s new DLC, Dark Arisen features a lot of new content, including new rings. It is by no means a “one ring to rule them all,” but the Ring of Virtue is a ring that provides a boost to your chances of obtaining rare drops from defeated monsters. It costs 1 Norgan Ducat to purchase it from Dwayne at the Norgandian Settlement, making it the cheapest ring and item sold in this specific shop’s Rare Trade tab.
The problem is that the ring’s mysterious description is super vague. It just says its true power will awaken when you vanquish the source of Norgan’s ruin. But it doesn’t tell you who or what that is. It is actually the DLC’s true final boss, Satanachia. You must be wearing the ring while defeating him in order to unlock its power.
Details about the Ring of Virtue:
Where to Get DD2 Dark Arisen Ring of Virtue

You must purchase the Ring of Virtue from Dwayne in the Norgandian Settlement. Open his Rare Trade and scroll down to find the rings including the Ring of Virtue. It weighs 0.01 kg and costs a measly 1 Norgan Ducat. The number of available Norgan Ducats in the game isn’t fixed, and monsters in the area have a chance to drop them when slain. Check the arrival cave leading into Norgan, just past a chest containing a Wakestone Shard to find a Ducat. I found some more at Valgr Ravine, Snowslide Pass and Beorcan Stronghold.

Pro tip: while you’re here, I recommend you also buy the Ring of Master (for your character) and the Ring of Myrmidon (for your Pawn), as equipping both speeds up your pawn’s revival. I found those two to be the most useful rings that you can buy from Dwayne.
What Does the Ring of Virtue Do?

Its official in-game description says, “A ring bearing a faint enchantment. Wearing it while vanquishing the source of Norgan’s ruin is said to unleash its true potential.” It is almost too cryptic, right? Don’t worry, I got you.
Eventually, when I succeeded in unlocking its “true potential,” I found out the ring grants the player a higher chance of rare drops from monsters, and it can be upgraded to higher tiers with better rewards.
How to Unlock the True Power of the Ring of Virtue (Satanachia)

You must slay the secret final boss of the expansion, Satanachia, while having the ring itself equipped. You’ll encounter this boss fight after defeating the Fallen Dragon in the quest Reunion. Afterward you’ll wake up at Norgandian Inn and must follow the Into Rancor quest to reach him in Niflhel Depth. And don’t forget to have the Ring of Virtue equipped before attempting the fight. In case you haven’t encountered him yet, you’re going to want to learn how to reach and fight the Dark Arisen Satanachia boss.
Keep in mind that you don’t necessarily need to wear it the first time you ever fight Satanachia. You can do this on whichever attempt you choose. I personally first beat Satanachia simply because I wanted to experience the plot. Then, after learning that he was the ‘source of Norgan’s ruin,’ I retried the boss and unlocked the ring’s potential.
What Is the Source of Norgan’s Ruin?
That’s a roundabout way of saying Satanachia, the true final boss of the Dark Arisen expansion. The game doesn’t want you to be spoiled so Capcom chose to refer to him this way.
Do You Need to Wear the Ring the Entire Time?
Just to be safe, you’ll need to have it equipped for the entire duration of the boss fight. I didn’t wear it outside the Satanachia fight though, but I still got to unlock it, so you don’t need to wear it literally all the time you’re playing the DLC. Just put it on before the fight and keep it equipped.
How to Upgrade the Ring of Virtue
Here’s the thing: The game will tell you to defeat Satanachia a certain number of times to upgrade the ring. At first it begins with 1, then you get an upgrade. Afterward, the number goes higher in a pattern; defeat Satanachia X number of times to upgrade the Ring of Virtue’s power. Check the table below to see how many attempts each tier requires.
Ring of Wicked Appetite & Ring of Wicked Gore
The first Satanachia victory transforms the Ring of Virtue into the Ring of Wicked Appetite. Further victories unlock additional Wicked variants, eventually leading to the Ring of Wicked Gore, the strongest variant. The procedure is quite straightforward. The more times you defeat Satanachia, the stronger the ring gets, and the higher the rare drop percentage becomes.
| Satanachia Victories | Ring Tier/Variant | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Wicked Appetite | Slightly improved rare drops |
| 2 | Wicked Fare | Somewhat improved drops |
| 4 | Wicked Feed | Improved drops |
| Around 10 | Wicked Feast | Much higher chance |
| Around 20 | Wicked Glut | Vastly higher chance |
| I haven’t reached this far yet | Wicked Gore | Greatest obtainable chance |
The game doesn’t tell you the exact percentage number of each tier. If you want to learn the exact number, download and install the DD2 Better Item Description mod.
Is the Ring of Virtue Worth Using?
Frankly, the ring mostly comes in handy when you’re farming those rare drops from monsters, so go for it if you’re planning reruns and loops, or looking to get a specific monster drop. On its own, the increased rare drop chance isn’t worth the hassle of going through the Satanachia boss fight. However, if you’re already going to fight him multiple times or have another goal in mind for the boss fight, you might as well equip the Ring of Virtue (and its next variants) too in order to unlock its power and then upgrade it to the max version, Ring of Wicked Gore.
