Halloween: The Game Killer Tokens Explained | How to Earn and Spend Them

Halloween: The Game Killer Tokens confused a lot of players, including me, and led them to make many wrong assumptions. You probably saw the token icon, too. Let me make this simple for you. Tokens get you into a match as Michael Myers faster. Tempting, right? Here’s how to earn and spend them to become the boogeyman.

What Are Killer Tokens

Killer Tokens are a matchmaking currency, nothing more. Before you queue, you pick a role: Killer, Civilian, or No Preference. If you have Killer Tokens to spend, you will join a priority queue that significantly reduces your waiting time to play as Michael Myers specifically. This is for Multiplayer Mode, obviously, not Story Mode.

Tokens don’t leave your balance the moment you enter the priority pool. They are deducted only once you’ve actually entered a match as Michael. So queuing up with priority active and backing out beforehand shouldn’t cost you anything.

How to Earn and Spend Killer Tokens

You earn tokens by playing and completing matches. But that probably means that civilian and no-preference matches are the real hard work. You have to play and collect several matches as a civilian to build a balance. For example, arresting Michael Myers would earn you a lot of points.

Redeem tokens before you search to land in a priority pool that cuts your wait time to play Michael. That’s the entire transaction. You cannot choose to spend more for a better chance. You can only buy one ticket for each run.

You may ask if you need tokens at all to play Killer? No. Tokens buy a faster spot, but you can still queue as Michael without any and just wait longer. I have played as Michael without spending any Killer Tokens, but who knows if you would still have the chance once the servers get crowded.

Killer Tokens vs. XP vs. Perk Points

The game has three separate systems that most players often confuse with one another. Skins come from levels and challenges. Perks come from Perk Points. Killer Tokens buy exactly one thing: a shorter wait to play Michael. Here is an overview of how they are different:

CurrencyEarned fromWhat it does
Killer TokensPlaying and completing matchesPriority to enter the killer queue
XP / Progression LevelsMatches or story modeUnlocks civilians, Michael abilities, cosmetics, and challenge tiers across four tracks
Perk PointsCompleting matchesCivilian-only. Rolls Perk Cards for in-match buffs; bigger spends improve rarity odds

How to Fix Killer Tokens Not Showing Up

While scrolling on Reddit, I found a player who reached level 63 with 32,000 XP and got zero tokens to show for it! Someone suggested rebooting the game and said it fixed their own similar issue. The original poster tried it anyway and still got nothing, neither tokens nor XP. I could not find any other fixes. So you can try rebooting, but it’s a coin flip. If it did not fix it, here is my suggestion:

Email htghelpdesk@illfonic.com, IllFonic’s official support. Include your platform, build number, which mode you played, and your token balance before and after the match. That’s the most guaranteed way to get your tokens and XP back.

Have you earned any Halloween The Game Killer Tokens so far? How did it help you during matchmaking? Let me know if you think they are worth the trouble in the comments below.

FAQ

Can you buy Killer Tokens with real money?

No source confirms a purchase option. Community concern about pay-to-play exists, but nothing indicates tokens are sold or packaged for purchase.

Do you lose a token if you leave before the match starts?

Unlikely, since deduction happens only after you enter as Michael. No official refund policy exists to confirm this either way.

How long are killer queues actually running?

It could be vastly different for each run. One early-access player reported over three minutes searching plus ten minutes in lobby after spending all their tokens. That’s one report, not an average. But I imagine it will get more crowded over time.
