Shift at Midnight Shift 4 Walkthrough & Doppelganger Guide

By the fourth night of Shift at Midnight, the training wheels are off. You are still checking IDs behind the counter, but now you are also being pulled outside to the pumps and the customers have started lying better.
One thing to get straight before anything else, because it changes how you should use this guide: Story Mode’s thirteen shifts are randomly generated. Bun Muen built the game so that the customer lineup reshuffles every playthrough. Spared customers can come back on a later night, and a face that was human last time is not guaranteed to be human this time.
The Four Tells That Work in Every Run
This is the part worth memorizing, because it survives the randomization.
- The ID has to be real. A legitimate ID carries a barcode you can scan. Drivers who hand over a passport or a driving licence instead need running through the computer manually.
- The ID has to match the person. Doppelgangers routinely get the details slightly wrong and a scar on the wrong side of the face is enough.
- The story has to match the ID. This is the one that catches the most customers. Question their date of birth, their occupation, why they are out at this hour. Then cross-reference against the NET Database on your computer. The database does not lie. The customer does.
- The behavior has to make sense. Some tells are not subtle at all. If something is physically wrong with how a customer moves or holds themselves, trust it.
If you want to survive shift after shift, this Shift at Midnight survival guide covers everything you need to know.

Shift at Midnight Shift 4 Walkthrough
This is my personal run in Shift at Midnight Shift 4:
Check the Noticeboard
As always, you have to check the noticeboard to see your objectives. You will find out that the gas pump is now fixed and you should read the note by the pump for more information.

You now have some instructions to identify doppelgangers who are in the car. These instructions are:
- Ask the driver how you can help them
- use the flashlight to search the car
- look up the license plate
- ask them some questions and if their story doesn’t seem right, you can shoot them

First Customer
After reading the note, your first customer will arrive. He has a blue car. Seek Poirot in thyself.
In my run, the driver’s car was full of guns and there was a piece of newspaper in the backseat with an article about doppelganger. I forgot to check the plate on the registry device and after checking out, everything seemed normal. So I let him leave safe and sound. Ok, next one please.

Second Customer: Natasha Lin
Natasha claims she is really tired and want to go home to have some sleep. However, when you scan her ID card, it turns out she is a bartender and works at night. Kill her immediately.

Third Customer: Agnes Wells
Agnes is an old lady with a nice attitude. But behind that kind face, there is a doppelganger. How do I know? just look at her birth year: 1990. Done, shoot her.

At this point, I saw Norbert and he tried to poison me with lemonade. So I killed him. It was all my fault, I killed him first time of his appearance and I had to kill him for the second time.

An honest mistake: I killed Esteban after shooting Agnes and Norbert. I was stressed out and out of control.
Fourth Customer: Driver with a White Car
He is a doppelganger. The interior of his car is shining with doppelganger effects while checking it with the flashlight.

Objective: Answer the Phone
Your boss will call you on the telephone to tell you about a swarm of rats invading the store. You have to clear them out before the next customer arrives.

Fifth Customer: A Cute Dog
Tofu is a service dog. Nothing about him raised a flag, and I let him go. He was a real dog. No regrets.

Sixth Customer: Net Pongsak
Net is a monk but I was suspicious about his movements. He was levitating in the air, so I decided to kill him. He was a doppelganger.

Seventh Customer: Clyde Dawson
Clyde is a sheriff and a recurring face. In my run he was human and I let him walk.
Do not turn that into a rule. Clyde has a doppelganger version. It exists in the game and it will come through your front door wearing his face. Run the same checks on him you would run on a stranger.

Shift at Midnight Shift 4 Results
As you can see, I did a great job on my fourth night! I only killed poor Esteban because I got stressed out and lost my control.

Honestly, getting through this shift just comes down to trusting your gut and double-checking those IDs before you pull the trigger. Good luck out there and try not to panic-shoot poor Esteban like I did!
What Happens If You Let One Through
Worth knowing before you start second-guessing yourself into paralysis, because the punishment is specific.
Any doppelganger you wave through comes back after the shift as a monster. You get sixty seconds. Use them to arm yourself, nail boards across the three doors with E and lay traps. Then the entities spawn.
While one is hunting you, watch the patience bar at the top of the screen. It doubles as the entity’s health and as a countdown on how long it will keep looking. The eye fills as you enter its line of sight and it comes for you when the eye turns red.
Vents in the stockroom and shop floor work as hiding spots, but not indefinitely. A mass of innards eventually comes down the shaft and forces you out.

The Emergency Weapons Arsenal unlocks once the patience bar hits halfway and only stocks what you bought on the computer beforehand. Your sidearm alone barely scratches these things.
