Windrose Max Level
As of writing this article at late April 2026, the max level in Windrose is capped at level 15. However, “Max Level” is a bit of a trick question. There are two different caps you need to worry about:
- The Completionist Cap (Level 15): To reach Level 15, you must essentially 100% the game. This requires completing almost every Point of Interest (POI) and nearly every quest in the game.
- The Gear Cap (Level 15): This is the most important number. Your gear (weapons and armor) maxes out at Level 15. Once your gear is “Epic” and Level 15, you have reached the peak of your power.

There is also a Technical Cap which is Level 30 or even higher. But, there is a catch. While your character level can technically go higher than 30, the benefits become so microscopic that they no longer affect gameplay. Therefore, remember my suggestion: Focus on Level 15 gear first.

How to Earn XP in Windrose?
Many players waste time trying to “grind” in Windrose. Avoid these common mistakes! At first, I tried to Complete POIs (Points of Interest). Look for the “?” icons on your map. You earn XP (usually +50 or +100) by finding every chest in that location.

Then, Follow the Main Quests. But do not ignore Side Quests and Faction Quests. These are some good sources for XP. Also, discovering new Mines or Ore Deposits rewards you with a flat +50 XP “Exploration Reward.”
Do not kill everything you see! You get 0 XP for killing animals, pirates or monsters. However, keep in mind that resource gathering still matters for upgrades and progression even if it does not give XP.

Chopping wood or mining ore gives you materials, but it will not help you level up. The Windrose max level is hard to reach, but not impossible. You just have to put in a lot of effort!
Windrose Max Level: Stats and Talents
Once you hit Level 15, your build will be locked in with the following resources:
- 45 Stat Points: Use these to bolster your base attributes.
- 12 Talent Points: Note that you do not get a talent point every time you level up. These are rare and precious. Like me, spend them wisely on talents that fit your specific playstyle!
Keep in mind: Gear is More Important than Level!
If you enter a new zone and the Enemy levels are higher than yours, do not panic. In Windrose, your gear level is significantly more important than your character level.
Focus on Gear!
If you are struggling, head to a wharf and upgrade your weapon to Level 15. Then enjoy your power and might! You will suddenly find those “high level” enemies much easier to handle. Some weapons like Rapier of a Thousand Cuts are really powerful and can help you to defeat enemies easily.

Map Hovering
Not sure where to go next? Open your map and hover your cursor over the question marks. The tooltip will tell you exactly how much XP that location is worth. Target the +100 XP locations first to level up fast in Windrose.
The Rested Buff
Always look for ways to upgrade your “Rested” status early on. It makes the journey to the level cap much smoother by boosting the gains you get from your activities.
