Yet Another Zombie Survivors Potato: What It Does and How to Find Sanji

The potato is the weirdest item in Yet Another Zombie Survivors. It looks like a joke, but it isn’t. The Yet Another Zombie Survivors potato is tied to two achievements, a hidden message, and a small tribute to the developers’ pet rabbit. Here’s what you need to know after the 1.0 launch.
In This Guide:
What the Potato Actually Does
The potato does two things: it summons Sanji the Rabbit at a window on the Vile Wasteland map, and it is supposed to turn SWAT’s grenades into exploding potatoes.
Potato Achievements (New 1.0 Rewards)
There are two achievements related to potato, and both of their rewards changed in the 1.0 update:
- Why’d You Pick That?: Get a Potato. The reward is now the Great Nade, not the Skip Rope.
- Curly Little Potato: Find Sanji the Rabbit. The reward is now the Easter Egg, not the Jade Amulet.
How to Find Sanji the Rabbit
Finding Sanji the Rabbit is part of your achievement:
- Finish the Power Overwhelming achievement first. I’m not sure but many players have said it’s prerequisite for finding Sanji.
- Load into the Vile Wasteland map. Endurance mode gives you more time.
- Ban as many other items as you can, then go in with maxed rerolls, banishes, and a high-level gamble badge. This makes the potato far more likely to show up.
- Grab the potato from an item chest.

- Walk to the eastern (top-right) edge of the map, where there’s a house outside the play area.
- Stand completely still for about 5 to 10 seconds. You don’t need to aim at anything. Sanji appears in the window.
How Many Potatoes Do You Need?
This is the biggest point of confusion, and the answer changed over time. Originally you needed three potatoes in a single run, but it frustrated players so much that they changed it to 1 potato.
Who Is Sanji
Sanji was the developers’ pet rabbit, who has since passed away. They called him a “curly little potato,” which is where the achievement name comes from. So this isn’t just a random item, it’s a small memorial hidden in the game.

The Hidden Message on the Potato
Here’s a detail almost nobody notices at first. The potato’s tooltip carries the caption d2luZG93IGluIGRlc2VydA. It isn’t random. It’s Base64, and decoded it reads exactly: “window in desert.” The developers were telling you where Sanji is the whole time.
