Shift AT Midnight Calendar Killer: Is that You?

When you finish the 7th night, you’ll see a broadcasted text that warns about someone called the Calendar Killer. It says that this guy kills 8 people on the 8th day of every month since July. But I didn’t see or interact with any killer on the 8th shift, and other players I know didn’t either.

What’s going on then? Is the game fooling us? Is this just a simple text the developer (Bun Muen) put in randomly or is it a real mystery?

My theory is that there is a Calendar Killer in Shift at Midnight. Oh, you haven’t seen it? Have you ever looked in the mirror?

My Theory: Who Is This Killer?

You are the Calendar Killer! I mean the main character is him. This is my theory for several solid reasons.

Count your customers that night. There are 8, right? That killer is supposed to kill 8 people. One reason that makes this number of 8 more special is that it’s the same for all players (as far as I’ve checked other playthroughs). So this is probably not something random or meaningless.

I didn’t kill all 8 customers. I just tried to find Doppelgangers, be a good person and clean my store. This is what we are supposed to do in this game. I was expecting the Calendar Killer at any time that night, and nobody came.

I asked my friends and co-workers, and they didn’t encounter him either. Because like me, they didn’t kill everybody they saw. With the text showing at the end of shift 8, my theory even makes more sense.

When we don’t kill all 8 customers, the broadcast says that the killer hasn’t followed his pattern this time.

The Movie Called Calendar Killer

I haven’t seen the movie, but while I was searching, I saw it in the results. The interesting thing is that the killer in that movie actually works a night shift!

Other aspects of the film don’t seem very similar to the game. The film’s killer sets a specific schedule for his victims, but it’s not exactly the 8th day of the month. Also, he mostly targets women.

Anyway, the Shift at Midnight developer didn’t have to copy all the film elements for the Easter egg. The important hint is that the film’s killer works the night shift and so do you! I don’t think this similarity is just by chance.

Be the First One to Prove It

I played the game twice. The second time I played to find out more about that little gnome, Norbert. So I honestly can’t start another run soon. And as far as I could find, there’s probably no one who has killed all 8 customers in that shift.

So, any volunteers willing to sacrifice their run to prove my theory and show what happens if we kill all 8 customers? I’m really curious about what happens this way, and I hope the reward isn’t just a new broadcast text.

Warning: Killing every human costs 15 dollars in the game. You should have at least 250 dollars at the end of the game to be able to save your pet. So become the true serial killer only if you don’t care about this.
