Where to Find Parrots
Parrots are rare and only spawn in the Ocean biome on the Genesis 1 map. You will typically find them hanging out on most of the Ocean Region islands. Look for them around small islands, shallow water, and areas near mountains, rivers, and small lakes.
Finding these talking crayons is the real challenge because they blend into the environment perfectly. Don’t expect to see just one; they usually spawn in small groups. If you’re struggling to spot them, a creature tracker like Creature Finder makes the process much faster.
How to Tame Parrots in Ark
To tame a parrot, you have to get it to land on your shoulder. Once he’s there, you have to do some specific tasks that will make him happy, and he will be tamed. It is essentially a pet date! The cherry on top is that taming a parrot is an incredibly time-consuming process, and you have very little time to do it.
You have about one hour to complete these specific tasks once the parrot lands on your shoulder, or the bird flies away. Keep in mind that you can combine these methods for better efficiency. You don’t have to stick to only one.
How to Get a Parrot to Land on Your Shoulder
First, walk up to a wild parrot and use a basic emote (“T” on the keyboard) like the wave hello one. The parrot will fly down and land on your shoulder (for some reason). Once he is there (and he stays there), you can use one of the three methods below to tame him. The third one is the most efficient in my opinion, but check out the rest too. As mentioned before, you can also combine these methods.
Method 1: Kill Alpha Creatures
This is probably the fastest way to get it done. Hunt down and kill Alpha creatures like Raptors or Tusos. They have a ridiculous amount of XP. And yes, the parrot stays on your shoulder even underwater, provided you wear a SCUBA mask. Depending on their, you have to kill a couple of these guys to tame the parrot.
Method 2: Loot Treasure Map Bottles
You can hunt for Treasure Map Bottles scattered along the shoreline. Once you have collected the bottle, find it in your inventory to mark a waypoint toward the buried treasure. Travel to the spot with a shovel and dig it up. If you do this a couple of times, the parrot will be tamed. But if you fail, it will freak out.
I think this is the slowest taming method. The treasures are tough to spot, and it’s not like there are a ton of treasure bottles all over the ground.
Method 3: Lighthouse Pirate Islands
You need a boat for this because you need to destroy some badass pirate ships. Not easy to do, to be honest. Once you’ve got your boat, find a lighthouse. Go for the Green lighthouses as they are much easier. Once you reach there, you have to destroy all of the pirate ships (each with about 20 to 60K HP) and all of the artillery towers around the island.
Once you do, you can land on the beach and fight over a hundred NPC enemies. Collect their dynamite, blow up the dynamite pads, and kill the final boss. The island then explodes and reveals several treasure chests. Loot these chests, and that usually finishes the tame immediately.
I think it is ridiculous to go through this much effort for one tame parrot. With that said, this is the most reliable method, but a solo run takes around 45 minutes.

Parrots aren’t just shoulder pets. Taming them is torture because they have a high return on investment. Here is everything parrots can do.
Treasure Hunt Tracking
Access the “Treasure Hunter Tracking Types” menu to track rare loot. The parrot detects Apex and Alpha dinos, NPC ships, supply drops, and cave crates. You can push the tracking distance up to 30,000 units. A blue icon appears over whatever you track. This is perfect for farming boss tributes.
Player Mimicry and Stealth
This bird can literally mimic the speech of nearby players. It also gives you a massive stealth feature. Having the parrot on your shoulder acts exactly like cactus broth. It completely hides you from wild creatures.
Crafting Skill Boost
The parrot has its own dedicated crafting skill stat. Pick it up, and your crafting skill instantly matches the bird’s level. With this, you don’t need to consume mindwipe tonics before crafting high-tier gear.
Base Stats and Breeding Info
Parrots have a low base health of 32 and only hold 15 weight. I mean, it’s a parrot, not a horse. What did you expect?! It makes up for it with a massive 900 food pool. It will not starve quickly.
You can breed parrots to get better stats or color mutations. Feed them one of these, so they grow big and fat and ready to mate: Simple Kibble, crops, seeds.
